When You Ignore Me
You may beat me bloodied and
bruised. Hurl decrepit insults,
demeaning names --
you've mastered that art. Even
restore the memories of late
night calls, lingering perfume
on your chest acrid stench of
another bitch, not mine.
Better yet, charge me with
the inadequate offense
of carrying a little more weight,
a you-don't-understand-me-
you-don't-let-me-breathe.
Exchange those, altogether
if you'd like,
For this silence.
