The Mirror of Mirage

Gazing in the mirror at the image of me
Who do I see? Is this me? Sigh...yeah its me
Stretching my mouth open; a smile then a frown
Exercising my facial muscles; reflections of years peeping

Wrinkles form a dance line atop my brows
Gray hairs playing peek-a-boo
This person in the mirror is not the same
as the one I see inside my head

Where is young miss with da tongue twist like Jamaican dreads?
Who solely believed that a closed mind is 1 dat don't get fed
Life is taking it's toll on me, I long for peace of mind.
Physically, I lead my race, but mentally, I lag behind.

Like 'Romper Room' I gaze this glass
Tell me, tell me, tell me true
Are my eyes deceiving me? Is my vision, fantasy?
What happened to my hour glass figure?

Young Miss thang looked in the mirror again, cracked it again
Seeing the rot that resides in her heart again, her soul unkempt
And warring. Her mind the closed race of peeping 'pon Insane
As the bound Keeper-Sweeper. Prejudice: the sigh unswept!

My eyes deceive me naught! The luxury of battle's faught!
