Triangle Assignment for Geometers Sketchpad

How to Create Triangles in Geometers Sketchpad
  1. Open Geometer's Sketchpad.
  2. Click on the line segment tool on the left hand side of the screen.
  3. Click and drag to ake a line segment in the drawing area.
  4. Click the other endpoint of the line segment.
  5. Without moving the pointer, click in the same point and drag to another point.
  6. Click the endpoint of the second line segment.
  7. This makes the second side of the triangle.
  8. Again, without moving the pointer, click in the same point and drag to another point.
  9. The last point you drag to should be your starting point to complete the triangle.
  10. Make sure the pointer is directly over the point. (You should be able to see a dark circle where the original circle is.)
  11. Click on the original endpoint while you can see the dark circle to complete the triangle.
Once the triangle is complete, you can click on the arrow tool in the upper left corner of the screen to grab and move any of the sides or vertices.

Label the points of the triangle by clicking on the finger with the letter A on it.
Then click on each of the vertices of the triangle.

Show the measure for each of the angles by selecting each of the vertices in order while holding down the shift key.
Then click on the Measure menu and click on Angle.
If Angle on the Measure menu is grey, then it is possible that not all of the vertices have been selected.

Once all three angles have been measured, then manipulate the triangle so that it fits one of the following descriptions.

Create two more triangles in the same workspace that fit two other descriptions on the list.
Once the triangles are completed with their measures listed:
- print the page out,
- put your name on it
- make sure each of the triangles are labeled with the descriptions on the list above
- turn this in as a homework assignment

Please ask for help if these instructions seem confusing.
