US: We first met in 1980, when Tom was hired to replace the siding on my mothers house. Soon after, we started dating and at this writing have now been married for more than twenty years. Even though we were both born and raised on Long Island, New York we yearned to get away from the congestion and craziness of Downstate. We knew there had to be a much simpler and safer life for our four children and ourselves elsewhere. We literally "ran for the hills" when we decided to move to Chenango County in Upstate New York in 1991. Our new home was a 100+ year old Homesteader House which we bought as a handyman's special, and we've been working on it ever since.
TOM: My husband has had his own carpentry business for more than 25 years doing major renovations as well as custom made items and furniture for both residents and businesses. Always the craftsman, he thoroughly enjoys constructing furnishings in the garage in his spare time using his tools of the trade. I purchased a wood lathe for him one Christmas a few years ago, so he could have even more fun creating. Unfortunately for me, when he has all these sophisticated machines to experiment with in the garage, the house never seems to get finished. Tom has managed to construct some wonderful treasures for our home however, unless he was working for you in your home, a few of these projects would be completely impossible to ship! We do have plans to open a store within the next couple of years. That would allow us to sell larger pieces of furniture, for pick up. I am quite proud of these one of a kind accomplishments. They can be viewed on our page Home Projects.
GINNIE: While Tom was working on his trade, I was at home a good portion of the time raising our four children. They are all good kids, and a lot of fun to be around. I have worked outside of our home as well, all be it at part time jobs, except during the first six months to a year of each of our children's lives. I stayed home with them during that time, just being a mom. My jobs outside of the house varied, everything from working in hospitals and offices, to doing home party's selling candles and accessories in other peoples homes. Selling candles was my favorite job, as it was the most fun and allowed my creativity to blossom and grow immensely. I soon decided to try my hand at furniture, and website, building. So far the only pieces I've made are things I felt we needed, but never had the time to create. The two tables and pair of bookends I've created, can be found at the bottom of our home projects page. Have some fun clicking around the links to various pictures on our website and let us know what you think!
Ever your gracious hostess, Ginnie
