| Janice de Belen returns to TV |
These past weeks, Janice de Belen has bounced back from near-anonymity because of the upheavals being experienced by her marriage, due to the machinations of a young interloper. Many peoples hearts went out to Janice, specially after it was cattily surmised that her spouses eyes had wandered because Janice had become "losyang" (allowed herself to go to pot). Well, last Sunday, Janice proved her snide detractors wrong by appearing on "S-Files" as Paolo Bediones guest co-host. Instead of looking matronly and over-the-hill, Janice was smart and peppy, very much her old articulate and quotable self. Clearly, despite her marital woes, she was not about to be put out to pasture. Right off the bat, the show tested Janices resolve by asking her to comment on the wedding of Aga Muhlach, her former beau (and the father of her son Igi) and Charlene Gonzales. Janices sincerity in wishing the couple the very best made a strong impression on viewers. The situation was made even more delicate by the fact that Janises own marriage was on the rocks. It would have been easy for her to grouse about the institution, and to warn Aga and Charlene about their own possibly rocky times ahead, but Janice rose above that. The farthest she went was to observe that high-profile celebrity weddings put greater pressure on the couple to make their marriage succeed, because of the greater expectations resulting from the attendant publicity. Paolo concluded the grilling by asking Janice why, in her view, her affair with Aga hadnt ended up at the altar. Candidly, Janice replied that they were still very young when she got pregnant, so if they had gotten married on the rebound, it was practically certain that the union wouldnt have lasted anyway. Janice was visibly relieved when the show got her off the hook and went on to other topics. Paolo did the hosting honors for the most part, but Janice soon came back on camera to interview sexy singer Mystica on the fuss and bother between her and her erstwhile bodyguard-lover. The singer came up with a tearjerking performance that was matched in implausibility by her bodyguards ugly counter-charges. The poor viewer had to put up with their completely contradictory versions of their sordid contretemps. To her credit, Janice did her best to keep the talk above-board, even as the ex-lovers brought their argument down to the gutter level. Clearly, Janice has proven that shes got what it takes to host her own TV talk-variety show. GMA-7 bosses should lose no time in coming up with a suitable format for her. After all, she still has a following that can be energized into supporting a new show topbilling their favorite luminary. There is life after a rocky marriage, if youre as talented and unsinkable as Janice de Belen. |
