| Rumor has it that former ''S-Files'' host Lyn Ching was axed because advertisers, after watching actress Janice de Belen pinch hit for her, decided they wanted the former soap opera queen for Lyn's job. And this rumor spread and persisted after the latter officially became the co-host of the Sunday afternoon showbiz talk show of GMA 7. But rumors, in the turbulent showbiz industry, are the common tailends of achievements or successes. And for Janice de Belen, she was surprised about the rumor as she was equally surprised about being retained permanently as a co-host of �S-Files.�. �I was shocked. Of course I wanted to work, but then if there was anything I was expecting, it would be a soap opera or anything that has to do with acting. I never expected that I would get something like this. As long as I was assured by the network that it was not like that, that�s fine with me,� explained Janice on the issue. Janice� forte from the very beginning of her showbiz career was dramatic acting. Everyone who saw her grow up as an actress could remember how she made the whole nation fall in love with �Flor de Luna� � making them cry when she was down-trodden and ecstatic when she was happy. But her versatility as an artist also swayed her to dabble on hosting for awhile. Her firsthand experiences from hosting came from TV shows too like �Eat Bulaga� and a short-lived showbiz talk show with ABS-CBN. With �Straight from Janice,� her incisive interview segment in the all new and revitalized �S-Files,� she has already started investing in learning more about interviewing people. She now also scans the entertainment pages of newspapers to keep abreast with the ins and outs of showbiz. And now, she�s more aware of her relationship with her interviewee during the show. �I know that this is a showbiz-oriented talk show. Siyempre pag sinabi mong ganoon may kasamang intriga iyon. Sa akin mahirap ng konti kasi I�ve always been specific about drawing the line between private and public lives. But I know also that if I warm up to my guests while I�m talking to them, they themselves will start to open up without me having to get it from them or provoke them to say anything. I want them to feel comfortable when they are talking to me. I don�t want them to be nervous,� she stressed. Janice so far has interviewed a variety of celebrities ranging from Dingdong Dantes, Rica Peralejo, Martin Nievera and Mystica to mention a few. Among them she was really awed with the life and scandals of singer Mystica.. And during her intimate conversation with the singer she found herself uttering on air, �This is so complicated.� A remark that sounded funny on air but full of interest and sincerity from the budding TV host. Of course the shining moment for Janice de Belen and for �S-Files� was her very personal tete-a-tete with old flame and father of her firstborn Aga Muhlach. The much talked about interview painted refreshing colors on both Aga and Janice especially with their relationship. Televiewers felt so much friendliness and peace between them from those short minutes of interaction. The result, as �S-Files� insiders put it, a No. 1 rating! �This is a challenge for me and at the same time a learning experience. Kasi nga hindi naman talaga ito ang ginagawa ko,� Janice said. �I�m looking forward to it. Siyempre there�s pressure because you are also nervous because you are always hoping to do well. My goal is not to topple anybody. I just want to do my best.� After the Aga Muhlach interview, questions also arose regarding the possibility of interviewing her estranged husband John Estrada on her segment. Her reply is, �Yes, why not, but maybe not at this time yet. We are separated but we are not enemies. We may not be the best of friends but we are ok...I think he always watches me. And he always has comments everytime like I have nice hair, a good interview, etcetera.� |
