| Women who dare to break free Posted: 6:57 PM (Manila Time) | September 24, 2001 Inquirer News Service I ENJOYED myself immensely when "Sis" invited me to be one of their guests in their episode on independent women (to be aired Sept. 26 on GMA-7 at 10:30 a.m.). Pinky Amador, Jackie Castillejo, Georgina Sandico and I compared notes like high school girls. Even Janice de Belen was constantly being ribbed by her sis Gelli because Janice has now reclaimed her freedom. Her bond with ex-hubby John Estrada had turned into bondage so she had to break loose. In between takes, I was teasing Janice and Gelli about the time when we interviewed Menudo for my mom's show. Gelli was still painfully shy back then. The sisters said, "At least we can say we met Ricky Martin before he became really big and we have pictures to prove it! But at that time we were all crazy about Robby Rosa. 'Di natin akalain si Ricky pala ang sisikat!" After the taping I cornered Direk Louie Ignacio about the report that "SIS" is a brainchild of Eric Quizon and he just pirated the idea. Direk said: "I don't know what they are trying to insinuate but I'm very sure that. I've had this concept for years. I would rather concentrate on making 'SIS' even better than be affected by all those accusations. Ratings-wise, we are improving so I'll just keep doing my thing. Let them do their thing." I had the chance to catch up with my kumareng Janice. It was so good to see her finally take control of her life. She has not only survived, she has prevailed. Janice has never been this strong. As she puts it, "I don't feel the need to cry anymore. After a while of waiting in vain for him to change, I just got sick of it. I had to get out before I ended up not knowing who I was and what I wanted." Seize the day, Sisters!! |
