| While writing this column, I was watching my "sinister sister" Boy Abunda conduct John Estrada's birthday interview on "MTB." Luigi Muhlach's short but very touching tribute to John brought tears to my eyes. He said that John was the kind of dad "who really made time for and gave time to his kids." John is really just Luigi's stepfather. He and Luigi's mom, Janice de Belen, are estranged at this point, but you should give him credit for still being a constant in Luigi's life. Exemplary My cousin Rina and I shared the same sentiment when we said that we really admire Janice for having so much courage to move on and no apparent bitterness in her heart. It took a lot for her to allow her kids to be with John on his birthday in two separate celebrations on television, on "MTB" and on "Talk TV" which airs opposite her own, "Sis." Their kids are all healthy, adorable, polite, articulate, and loving to both parents. There's no doubt that Janice is an exemplary mother. I'm a mom and I know that since most of the time the kids of separated parents stay with their mom, their adjustment and well-being is largely dependent on what they see of her. If she has a positive outlook, and avoids bad-mouthing and blaming the dad, then the kids will not feel torn and will grow up secure in the love of both parents, even if the latter live separately. Ipe said it best during our last "The Buzz" interview when he said that he still cared about whoever I may eventually end up with because my relationship and my happiness or sorrow will have a direct bearing on the well-being of our son Josh. |
