| Doula (Doo-la) From the Greek Doule, meaning "mother's servant". Birth doula's are trained professionals experienced in childbirth who provide continuous emotional and physical support during labour and birth. A birth doula will also facilitate communication between the labouring woman, her partner and caregivers. Birth doula's will meet with you prenatally to discuss your desired birth experience, to answer any questions you may have and to help you make a birth plan. Your doula will also meet with you after the baby is born. | Postpartum doula's provide emotional and physical support to the new mother and her partner in the postpartum period. Some services provided by postpartum doula's may include: Light housework, help with basic baby care, running errands, breastfeeding support, cooking light meals and more.
