This 'N That
Just a place where I can say whats on my mind on a variety of topics.

Well the lowcarbonabudget list seems to growing and a bit more active. A member brought up a really cool topic, "Once a Month" cooking. Honestly , I love this idea. The ease of a frozen dinner without the high cost and without the additives and mystery ingredients. I can also control the amount of salt. I am just bummed I didn't think of this on my own but then again I rarely have any "original ideas".

Once a month cooking really is budget friendly. You can buy in bulk so one trip to the grocery store? Okay maybe two in a month. Buying a whole chicken instead of those packs of pre cut pieces for example will save you a ton of money. Except my favorite chicken wings they can be cooked and frozen too.

By using the oven 1 or 2 days a month saves on electricity. A "menu" with a shopping list has been provided to the list but I think I am going to tweak it a bit more to my taste. Example for those with a sweet tooth.... Pudding Pops! Some SF pudding and cream and water, mix it, pour it into your mold and freeze. A wonderful cool treat for hot summer days. Another way to save on electricity and not heat up your house is use the grill! Fire it up and grill up some chicken or beef kabobs, hamburger patties and toss on a few hotdogs or just grill some chicken or ribs with homemade LC BBQ sauce...

Of course thanks to websites like grocerydeals we can see whats on sale in any store in your area. Its a cool site but it has its limitations. Oh I just had a thought... LC ice cream, make a couple of containers of ice cream while everything else is cooking. Ice cream is perfect for the freezer! Getting a second freezer to hold all these frozen meals is a wise investment. Well thats my topic for the day or week...
