Geography!

One must consider her geography...

Scotland is a fairly small country with ragged coastline. It is 274 miles long, with its widest point at 154 miles and its narrowest at a mere 25 miles.

The coastline adds up to over 2000 miles.

274 miles (441 kilometers) 2000 miles (3218 kilometers) 154 miles (248 kilometers) 25 miles (40 kilometers). In Scotland, it is never possible to get too far from the sea, in either thought or lifestyle.
