| The challenge for 2004 was to use a specified block, make at least 4 of them and set them together without sashing. The coloring of the blocks will make design differences appear among those taking part in the challenge. |

I used my quilt design software, Electric Quilt 5, to play around with color. For whatever reason, I decided to try purple and its complement yellow. I picked up on the checkerboard effect of where the four blocks come together and chose black and white to highlight that effect. Yellow and gold were used to highlight where the center of the block seemed to make a star, with black between the stars to emphasize them; and I used purple in the remaining patches to suggest flowers. We were permitted to add borders, or could make even more blocks if we chose. |

Size 32-1/2" x 32-1/2"; machine pieced top -- All the fabric came from my stash this year (no new purchases!), including a neat holographic spiderweb print on black that I used for the black on-point squares between the stars. I also decided to use two different shades of purple and used two different light-purple fabrics for interest. |
