I rejected three other landscape ideas because the size of the stones in the provided fabric wouldn't work in the correct perspective. (We're limited in size to no more than 30" on a side.) I ended up using the stony fabric only in the top and bottom border of this quilt.

After giving up on my other ideas, I looked on the Internet for anything on the topic of "rock of ages," and found a photo of the Rock of Ages Lighthouse in Lake Superior near Isle Royale, on this site:

Quilting: cables in left and right borders; ivy on stony border; "feathers" and stippling in upper section; "sea grass/kelp" in lower section (I know, I know, Lake Superior is not in the ocean...:) ).
