The first box I decided to make was a hexagon-shaped box with a separate hexagon-shaped lid. I "free-motion quilted" the sides with a floral design for interest. The fabrics were a black on the outside, a red with black seed shapes on the inside and lid of the box. The floral design was stitched with red thread so it would show up (although it doesn't show well in the picture). I gave it as a gift to a woman (an Internet pen pal) celebrating her 80th birthday in 2004. Here are two views:

Another project was a recipe-type box with attached/hinged lid. Once I picked out the fabrics and thread I wanted to use, it took about 3 hours from start to finish, including cutting the stiff interfacing shapes, fusing the fabric to them, trimming, and stitching. EASY! And, yes, fast and fun as well. :-)
