The History of Baby Massage
Baby Massage is one of the oldest and most natural of the healing arts.
Originating in India over 2,000 years ago passed down from mothers to daughters.

American Vimala McClure the founder of the International Association of Infant Massage, who worked as a volunteer in an Indian orphanage in the early 1970's watched the older girls massage the younger ones, which benefited them by helping them gain weight, which in the long run gave them a better chance of survival. Vimala also watched as mothers massaged their babies and became aware that although materially deprived, these mothers were offering their babies a great gift of love and security, thus helping them to develop into compassionate human beings.

After returning to the USA, Vimala McClure massaged her own babies daily and researched the effects of touch on her own as well as other newborn babies.
Vimala developed a system of massage based on what she had witnessed in India and the knowledge she had of Swedish, Reflexology and Yoga practices.

In 1981 Vimala founded the International Association of Infant Massage, with the mission to integrate the ancient art of infant massage into the parenting traditions of western cultures.

The first instructor was trained by Vimala in 1978, due to its many benefits the techniques are now taught in over 40 countries worldwide.
To ensure your instructor is qualified by the Association - look for the letters C.I.M.I after their name.
