| What is Zone Therapy ? | |||||||||||
| William Fitzgerald discovered that many areas of the body including those on the hands and feet which when pressed: deadened sensation, brought about pain relief and also relief in the condition causing the pain. Dr Fitzgerald also noted that the parts of the body which had such a reflex relationship lay within certain longitutinal zones. He speculated that the human body could be divided into Ten Longitudinal Zones ascending from the feet to the brain. In Reflexology the human body is divided into 10 longitudinal zones, 5 on either side of the spine, that run front to back, head to toe throughout the body and are most easily accessable via the feet or hands. The 5 zones on the right foot / hand represent the right side of the body and the 5 zones on the left foot / hand represent the left side of the body. By manipulating a certain area of the foot or hand, the rest of the organs, glands or structures in that zone will feel a positive benefit. Where two organs exist, for example two lungs, then they will be found one on each foot / hand. Likewise where an organ crosses the midline of the body, it will then also be found on both feet/ hands. For example the spine or the bladder etc. It is said that if there is a blockage in one part of a zone then all the other organs, glands, structures in that zone will also be affected. |
