Thomas Pettus was sheriff in 1566 and mayor of Norwich in 1590. He died January 7, 1597, and was buried at St. Simon and Jude. A handsome mural monument is erected in his memory on the south side of the chancel arch. He married October 29, 1548, Christian, daughter of Simon and Rose Dethick, of Wrongly, Suffolk. She was buried at St. Simon and Jude January 25, 1578. In 1591 he purchased the manor of Rackheath.

Sir John Pettus, Kt., was knighted by Queen Elizabeth. He was sheriff of Norwich in 1598, Member of Parliament 1601-1611, mayor in 1608, and a member of the London Company which held the third charter of the colony of Virginia. He erected an edifice over the spring at Bishopsgate, Norwich. He was buried April 9, 1613, and there is a monument in the family vault in St. Simon and Jude. He married at Honington, Suffolk, January 25, 1580, Bridget, daughter of Augustine Curteys.

Thomas Pettus, was baptized at St. Simon & Jude, Sept. 17, 1552; admitted to the Freedom of Norwich Mar. 10, 1593; Sheriff of Norwich 1601; Alderman and Mayor of that city in 1614. He possessed a large estate which he divided equitably among his many children--by an only wife he had seventeen children. He lived to the age of 68 and was buried June 6, 1620, in St. Simon & Jude Church. According to Talloch from him probably descended Thomas, the founder of the American branch, m. Cecily, dau. of William King of Hempstead, Norfolk. She died in Cathedral Close in 1641

John Pethous, Gent, will dated 1558, was in a disturbance at an inn ands aid he was son of the tailor Thomas Petyous.
John Pettus is on record as buying in St. Simon's parish in 1536. Was a tailor in Norwich in1550. He and three wives and three children were buried in what is now Saints Simon and Jude's churchyard.
The wives were 1) Jone, mother of his children 2) Cecily Capon, d. 1542, no children, widow of Richard Corpestry (Cecily left legacies to her husband's children by his first wife); 3) married about 1545 Rose Beatrice, widow of Simon De Thick, Esq.of Wormegay, Suffolk. Talloch says Jone was widow of Simon Dethick. Ch: Thomas; Jone and Anne did not marry.
John Pettus did Joan widow of "a" Simon dethick but this Simon de Thick is not the father of Christain.
When he married Rose Beatrice Crowe Dethick, she had children by Simon Dethick. One of which was Christian Dethick who married her STEP-BROTHER Thomas Pettus.
How are Simon de Thick and Simon Dethick related is good question. They can be one in the same for both Joan and Rose Beatrice were widows when they married John Pettus.

John Pettus, was wholly a Norwich man. Succeeded to his father's business, residing in St. Simon & Jude, where the family remained for more than a century growing in wealth and importance (Tal.). He was three times married: 1st to the widow of Simon Dethick (or Dethlic), Esq., belonging to a well known family of West Norfolk, by whom he had issue; m. 2nd. Cicelye, dau. of Simon Capon of Norwich by Katherin his wife, widow of Richard Corpusty of Norwich who died in 1540; she was buried in St. Simon & Jude, March 28, 1542; m. 3rd Beatrice Duckett, widow, at St. Simon & Jude, Feb. 1, 1543. He was admitted to the Freedom of Norwich, June 9, 1520; was buried in the North Porch of St. Simon & Jude Church, Aug. 28, 1558.
