| Jane's Addiction... They formed in LA in the mid 1980s, they put out three startlingly original albums in the shape of 'Jane's Addiction', 'Nothing's Shocking', and 'Ritual De Lo Habitual', they imploded in the early '90s, attempted a couple of reformations in about 1997 and 2001, and then finally found the magic again and returned anew in 2003. No one was more excited about this than me, I can remember the day they split initially, I was both really upset that this band that had meant so much to me were no more, but could recognise that it was better to go out whilst still on top, rather than to attempt to keep it together long past its sell-by date. I hoped they'd get back together, but as time went on I held out little faith... I don't read the music press all that often, so if there were any rumours of 2003's return doing the rounds, they passed me by. It was only when it was absolutely happening that I cottened on, and, oh my! Be still my beating heart! For many, 'Strays' will be their only knowledge of Jane's Addiction. It's a great place to start. Given that I can remember the day I heard them for the very firtst time, just after 'Nothing's Shocking' was released, and can still feel the physical jolt they sent through me, I know how the impact they will have on those who are hearing them now for the first time. I still feel 15 when I hear them, it's nice to think there are 15 year olds out there now getting exactly the same bolt form the blue that I did... Thank you, boys... <3 |
