Fabric

14-count Aida and 2-3 strands of thread.

The colours here are only a guideline. This chart is ideal for using up those small amounts of thread left over from kits and projects.

TO MAKE UP PINCUSHION

Cut out the finished design leaving a margin of at least 4 squares all the way around.

Cut out a piece of fabric to this same size (it can be aida or any fabric scrap that you have around)

Put the right sides together and backstitch the two pieces together on three sides. On the fourth side, sew a little way in from each side, but leave and opening for stuffing.

Turn cushion the right side out making sure that the corners are well turned. Stuff with polyster stuffing, kapok, foam or cotton wool.

Carefully sew up the remaining length of seam.

Variations - Add lace to the edge when sewing the pieces together to make a pretty effect.

To add a scissor-keep - Cut a 6 inch length of thin ribbon. Place the raw narrow edges together and sew them into the seam as you join the main pieces together. When finished, thread the ribbon loop through one handle of small scissors. Gently pull the rest of the cushion through the ribbon beyond the scissors and pull. This loop will hold the scissors to the pincushion and prevent them from escaping!
