CAT NEEDLECASE

To use this chart simply print out this page.

Are you tired of losing your needles in the tangle of threads in your sewing box? Well why not make this simple needlecase. This is an ideal way to use up the small amounts of Aida and threads that you have left over from other projects. The Aida I used was 14 hpi, but the thread colours can vary according to what you have left over.

MAKING THE NEEDLECASE

Items required:

1 small piece of 14 hpi Aida (any colour)

six stranded threads (any colours)

1 small piece of felt of leftover material cut and, if necessary hemmed, to be the same size as the needlecase.

1 Small piece of leftover felt or material that is half the size of the needlecase.

Time: 2-3 hours.

METHOD

Cross-stitch the above chart using 2 strands of thread, substituting your initials for the 'A B' on the left-hand side.

When the stitching is complete fray the edges of the Aida by removing 1 'holes width' of threads carefully to make a fringed effect.

Pin your felt of fabric to the wrong side of the your work and backstitch around the red frame of the front and back going through both layers to secure the inner covering.

Fold the finished cover in half. Place the half-sized felt piece inside the case covers and sandwich firmly together ensuring that the inner leaf is well into the fold and pin or tack together. With a strong needle and at least 2 strands of thread backstitch through all 5 layers along the spine of the cover about 2 holes in from the folded edge. This should capture the felt leaf within the covers.

Your needlecase is now ready for use!

Happy Stitching!
