Enrolled for service in Union Army Dec. 21, 1863, in Capt.T. H. Rulfields
Co., 1st Regt., Michigan Cavalry Vols., was wounded atLuray Court House,
Virginia, Sept. 24, 1864 and hospitalized in Chestnut HillMil. Hosp., Phila.,
Pennsylvania. Hon. discharged Aug. 26, 1865 on Cert. ofDisability by Lewis
Taylor, Surgeon, USA, by order of Major Gen. Humphreys,Comndg. Middle Mil.
Dept., Balto., Maryland, Geo. H. Hooker, Asst. Adjt. Gen.Was described on
enlistment as 28 years of age, 5 ft. 8 1/2 in., lt.complex., blue eyes, dark
hair. After his 2nd marriage lived in Des Moines andAtlantic, Iowa; in 1873
moved to farm at Osceola, Nebraska; in 1879 built the firststore in Shelby,
Nebraska, conducting business with his brother Frank; latersold his share and
ran a small store at Osceola, Nebraska. In 1889 was amerchant at Brule,
Keith Co., Nebraska, moving to Cozad, Dawson Co., Nebraska,1892, where he ran
a store until his death, which was due to heart troubleincident to an old
army wound."
