The Little Things
Written December 2004.

All the dead on the ground
Mass graves fires burning
Watching more dying but
Helpless to do anything

Speaking of our great gifts
That go to wrong places
Or can't be used cause
We're clueless in our homes

We're watching people go by
Every minute of every day
Only when tragedy strikes
Do we wake up and notice

It's when the world is one
No matter what our differences
Where all of us can reach out
And help those affected

When quarrels are forgotten
Just for an instance
While we help the other
Back onto their feet

And we know that we are loved
No matter where we are
Across all time and distance
Someone out there cares

It will come to an end
And love is forgotten
We return to our quarrels
And our wars and hatred

But for just a moment
We are all together
We'll try to help
In any way we can

These are the little things
That we should remember
We can reach out across
Even after this has passed
