Darkness
Written October 2003.

She stands on the edge of the abyss,
Staring straight down into it,
Looking death in the face,
But he never looks back.

She wishes to fall,
To slip off the edge,
But death ignores her,
Forcing her to stay.

She ignores those behind,
Frantically waving at her,
Trying to call her back,
The distance between grows.

She leans further forward,
But never truly falls,
Hovering on the edge,
Precariously she stands.

The mists wrap around her,
In her deep dark loneliness,
She's cold and shocked,
As she finally fades away.
