soitgoes' chai soap

you will need:

  • soap base & mold of your choosing (find these at most craft stores)
  • ground (not whole!) chai spices (nutmeg, cinnamon, orange peel, coriander, cardamom, allspice, ginger)
  • fine, black tea (I cannibalized a bunch of Lipton bags for this)
  • clove essential oil (optional)
  • vanilla scent (optional)

    what to do:

cut the soap base into small chunks and melt in a saucepan on the stove over low heat, stirring constantly to prevent burning. when the soap is melted, add enough spices/tea to make the base dark and fragrant. add 6-8 drops of essential oil and vanilla scent (the vanilla should be enough to give it a hint of scent but not overpower the spices). stir through. pour liquid into soap mold and allow to harden completely. when soap is hard, stick the mold in the freezer for 10 minutes or so until the soap can be easily removed.

if you only have one mold like I do, just reliquefy the remaining soap in the saucepan and repeat the process until there's no more left.
