What about the weather?

March 13 2003

Can you guess what it's doing on Long Island this afternoon? . Yes that's right, it is snowing again. All right, I exaggerate, that is a photo of the "Blizzard of 2003", February 17 but it is snowing again, preceded by icy rain and we have about 2 cm on the ground. So I have decided that I not taking any more snowy photos. You can check out the snowy yard, snowy dogs and snowy cars but I am done.

Every time I think that winter is done and spring is finally here another storm comes in and drops 15cm of the white stuff on our house. This usually happens when Steven is in California, basking in the sunshine and unconcerned about slippery paths. This time, though, I get my revenge. I just heard that his trip is cancelled so when he gets home, and when it finally stops snowing he can walk the dogs. Hurrah.

I love shovelling snow, it's such good exercise, and the dogs love it too - they come back from their walks covered in splotches of snow like reverse Dalmatians. The cats stay in because they would disappear in the snowdrifts. I may sound a little sarcastic, but everyone who knows me knows that I love snow, I think it's pretty and romantic and great to run about in, but, enough already. If I had wanted this much snow I would have lived in Buffalo.

Update

Well, I might have thought that enough was enough. In fact I put away the snow boots last Friday (March 28) but this winter had it's first snowstorm in Autumn so I shouldn't have been surprised that the latest would occur in Spring. The clocks went forward on Sunday and on Monday it snowed again. Not just a trace but a full 4" fell on us. The local news channels are calling it the last snowstorm of 2003. I sincerely hope so.
