| Jane had her first full scale production in Toronto, Ontario, Cananda in 1997. The Original Cast Recording was released that year and it contains several tracks that were later cut from the La Jolla and Broadway productions. In the Toronto production, the show was entirely sung through and was significantly longer. It has a kind of lighter feel than the Broadway recording and some fans of the show do prefer this version. It can be difficult to find, as it is out of print. CD and cassettes periodically show up on Ebay, so check there if you are looking for a copy! |
| My first exposure to the show was through the Toronto album, which was sent to me by a fan from Canada. I like the story and I remember thinking how beautiful the music was. I had never heard Marla before and her voice was so fresh. I am not a fan of Anthony Crivello, so he didn't quite work for me as Rochester. There are some gorgeous pieces of music, including Let Me Be Brave and Child In The Attic, which did not make it to the Broadway album. I did like the part at the beginning with Jane's parents, although it is not in the novel and was eventually cut from the show. This recording led me to an internet search in which I discovered that the show had been staged on La Jolla, CA with a certain ex-Beast as Rochester. And the rest is history. :) Kathey |
