| J.B. went to sea in a beautiful blue fishing boat; The sun was bright The conditions were right, And she loved being afloat. She'd waited for years On so many piers; And the day was finally here; She brought the bait, a line and some food, And the boys brought along all the beer. We went out to sea Just them and me; So I could learn how to fish. It was such a great day And a wonderful way To fulfil one's only wish. They reeled in the shark, the tuna and cod, but she had nothing at the end of her rod. She was ready to cry and give it all in, At the sight of their fish overflowing the bin. They'd had practice and knew the score, They were experienced And had done it all before. I was an onlooker A wannabe first mate; No matter how hard I tried I could never be that great. Suddenly the urge to purge Was overtaking my poor brain; The water sloshed beneath my feet I could see it go into the drain. Sick I was, as a dog Embarrassed and afraid. Annoyed as well as the boys could tell At the spectacle I had made. I thought I'd be right and catch a fish But the sea got the better of me.... Up and down, deep and brown Dark blue and green as well, What a swell. It rang the bell ... It made me yell.. Take me back, please take me back !!! I was never as brave as I'd planned to be That day, with my mates, out at sea; They were hardy and tough When the ocean got rough, They never got sick, like me. Despite the fact that I'd felt quite green I'd enjoyed my day on the ocean; It wasn't my fault, that I couldn't stand up, T'was the roll, and the up and down motion. The white roosters tail from the back of the boat; Churned up and drifted away, I loved it all, and had a ball, Getting wet and covered in spray. I'll go again one of these days, When I return home to Oz. I miss my mates, and our fishing dates They're the best there ever was. ~Jana MB~ copyright 2001 (Remembering Steve and Andy on board the "Good Omen") |
