| I remember my mum from a long time ago; When I was just a tot. She had trouble conceiving me And I was the only child she got. No brothers nor sisters to play with me, I had lots of pets instead. There were rabbits, possums, a cat and a frog, And my darling old dog shared my bed. A lamb (from a man who lived down the road), Told the mother had triplets that day. Would I like a sheep For me to keep You bet, was all I could say. Mum wasn't happy nor cheerful one time, When Lamby got into her garden. She chewed the roses, daisies and trees, And I pleaded for forgiveness and pardon. Billy the goat was always in trouble from the day he arrived to stay; He climbed on the fences, and garden benches, And ate everything that got in his way. Pandy the dog and Greenie the frog Were always by my side. I remember my little red wooden cart, That they'd sit on with me for a ride. Little Scruffy the dog was cute and shaggy. And loved to play in the yard, We'd had him so long And I had to be strong But the day he died was so hard. Guinea pigs galore and rabbits by the score, All grew up with me. A beautiful parrot, and a black and white magpie, Would often share my tea. Remembering them all brings them back to my heart; My pets have always been my joy. The cuddles, the walks, the uninterrupted talks Were more wonderful to have than any toy. ~Jana MB~ copyright 2001 In rememberance of Pandy my corgi, Maggie the magpie, Scruffy the terrier, Sooty, Moochina and Blackie the cats, darling Lamby my sheep, Billy my goat, Basil, Bugs, Bobby and Boots my rabbits, Boswell my Old English Sheepdog all the bunnies, the possums, and canaries. |
