| There's a shop in the mall That's a great lot of fun; You drop in for a minute But the journey's just begun. It has a quaint name and nothings the same; There's no other places around . The Dollar Store is nothing more than a bargain shopper's playground. You look straight ahead to the candles and books, There's buttons, threads, needles and hooks; Pretty bags lined up near the wall In rows of colours Some short, some tall. I love the bags with handles of cord, that you buy to hold your gift; You can say you're sorry to ones you love, And try to heal the rift. The paper is strong and the images are fine The pictures are pure delight; It's hard to choose what should be mine The stripes and the bears are so pretty and bright. There's envelopes to send to an overseas friend And a bear for every age; There's booklets, scrapbooks and postcards too And stickers by the page. What I love best is its name you see, A dollar will purchase it all, I go there often for lots of things But mainly to buy Wilbur dog, a ball. It's hard to pass by if you look inside, There's so much to turn your head; It's a great little store for everything, Even pillows for your bed. Christmas was fun with its ornate boxes In sizes from big to small; There were photo frames with santa at the side Or standing up looking quite tall. At Halloween there are spider webs hanging from every space; Pumpkins on strings to hang in your house and scarey masks for your face. Candy of course in orange and brown; To share with your visitors all over town. They knock on your door, dressed up for fun It's scarey that night and you'll want to run!! The Dollar Store has got it all Its filled to the brim with things I never can go "just for a look", Not when I see pretty rings. Photo albums and playing cards, Reels of lace by the yards; Silk flowers to place in a raffia wreath Boxes of ribbons in rows beneath. Crafts to do, sew or paint Stencils, brushes and patterns so quaint. Cards for birthdays, weddings or joy, Stuff for babies -- to say "IT'S A BOY" !! There's bottles of ink, and roses all pink, And teabags and chocolate in sachets to drink. Tins of cookies share their space in the shops, Next to the brooms, the cloths and the mops. Every gadget you'd ever need To make your house a home; Whisks, and forks, knives and bowls and egg beaters made of chrome. Little pieces of scented soap, some in packet and some on a rope. Combs for one's hair It's all there. There's so much to see, its hard to cope. ~Jana MB~ Copyright 2001 Inspired by the real dollar store in my new Canadian town where I shop till my hearts content. |
