The trees are there, so tall and grand,
Growing up to the sky .... right where they stand;
They are lush and thick and perfectly green,
And go on for miles for all to be seen.

I've seen a bear up there
Right at the top, followed by his little mates,
And down far below, waiting to go
Was mum, protecting from what she hates.

They heard us coming from way down the road
And their mum had said where to go;
They had to move fast
Before we got past
Climb high, hide quick, do not show.

They did as she said and ran up the tree,
Whilst she guarded from down near the base;
When we stopped our truck to have a good look;
She was ready .... there.....for the chase.

The three little bears were way at the peak
Of the grand Canadian tree;
They swayed in the breeze
And looked ill at ease
I was happy it wasn't me

The wind was blowing
And the tree was showing
That it could move to and fro;
I thought they were smart to make such a dart
To be safe there till we go.

Their little claws were holding on tight
They must do what mum knows best;
You have to stay, regardless of sway
Their skills were put to the test.

I looked up with a great big smile,
Wondering what they could see.
They looked down from their treetop crown,
And I guess, they wondered about me....

Mum was growling and warning us to go,
She stood up high in front;
Her coat was shiny and thick and full
And her growl had changed to a grunt.

She hated us there and made it known,
We were annoying  her that's for sure;
She would have to groan and grunt some more,
that will work  ... that'll be the cure.

The baby bears were way up high
I felt a bit perturbed.
We'll have to go and let them know,
We were sorry they'd been disturbed.

I had another look, and wrote in my book
Of the day we both had shared;
I felt proud to have been
A part of a scene
Where this beautiful mum really cared.

She knew what to do
when the going got rough,
She stood firmly,
and she got tough.
Her cubs were her worry
She sure made them scurry
They got away, that was enough.

She had saved her bears from a fate unknown;
And loved them with all of her might.
They did well when mum gave the yell;
And scurried way high out of sight.

Little bears
Big bears
All are here to see.
I love them all, short or tall
I wish they weren't afraid of me.

As I look at the land all covered in snow
And think of them snoozing away;
I'll wait for the Spring .... wondering what it will bring,
Perhaps another great day.

Sleep good and well my darling bears,
All covered up with snow;
The long cold months are what you need
To help you rest and grow.

When Spring does come I'll be there,
to see you once or twice;
I'll look for you in all the woods,
Because you are so nice.

Live long and safe all little bears,
Grow strong and learn the rule;
For life is sometimes kind of mean
And the hunters can be so cruel.

Thank you for sharing your "bear-day" with me,
You're a treasured part of my life;
I'll continue to tell, and remember you well,
And pray that you stay out of strife.

As we drove away on that wonderful day,
I turned around to see;
Three little bears going down to their mum,
All safe and sound as could be.

They passed the test and did their best
And mum would sure be proud;
I felt sad to go.... and really not know;
Perhaps they were part of a crowd.

Goodbye little ones
Grow Big

Remembering my day with the bears
in my new Canadian country town, up north nearly as far as Alaska.
Was the best day of my life.
