News and other information

Backstreet's going back to the studio!

"We're all excited," Kevin Richardson said soon after the group taped an upcoming episode of "The Oprah Winfrey Show" last month. "All of us hadn't been together in the same room in like six months, so it was wild. It was good to be back together again."

"We've got some stuff written, but we're gonna go in with an open mind and just explore and experiment and see what happens," Richardson said. "We've been talking about going with live horn sections and stuff like that, just funkin' it up, but not really in a hip-hop sort of way. More of using horns and live strings and a little bit of a '70s edge or something." [More...]

Howie goes solo!

"It will be a Latin-influenced album," Dorough says, "but it will have an international feel so it's not just caught in South America. I never want to neglect the fans in Japan, Europe, Canada, or America." He expects producers to possibly include Emilio Estefan, Rudy Perez, and Steven Morales. [More...]

This revealing account tells the tale of AJ's rise to superstardom, his descent into addiction, and his struggles through rehab, and offers a look at the harsh world of the music industry. Boys Postpone Recording Album No. 5

The Boys issued this statement in late March, after meeting on March 20th to discuss recording:

"As a group, we have decided not to record our next album at this time. We are not breaking up, but individually we are currently at different places in our lives and our hearts and minds are focused in other areas. All of us are getting along great and are supporting each other in our individual endeavors. When the timing is right, we will record another Backstreet Boys album. We would like to thank our fans for their continued support and love throughout our career."

Nick's fine helps sea grass in Keys

Remember when Nick ran his boat aground in May 2001? Well, the $30,573 fine he paid is being used to help re-grow the sea-grass his boat destroyed that is vital to the area's ocean life.

During the next few weeks, biologists from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration will use part of the money to start installing a series of bird stakes -- basically vertical pipes topped by four-by-four-inch wooden blocks -- in waters off Marathon.

The idea: The contraptions will become roosting places for cormorants and other seabirds whose droppings will jump-start the growth of sea grass transplanted to replace what was destroyed by the grounding. [More...]

Jan adds: And the monkey...we can't forget the monkey. (You'll see when you get there...:) ) Go Tommy!

Nick Carter Racing wins the ABPA Offshore World Championships:

As the crew of Nick Carter Racing prepared for Saturday's American Power Boat Association final in the Key West Offshore World Championship, crew chief Daryl Simeon had terse advice for driver Steve Oropeza and throttleman Lee Murray:

"Either win the race or bring the boat back broke," Simeon told them.

The team did the former, easily clinching its first world championship in the four-boat Super Vee class, one of 14 titles awarded Saturday. [More...]
