Once upon a time there lived a forest This story of a forest and living beings in that forest a long time ago. During that time humans, animal, birds and fish all used to stay in the forest side by side. There had been no differentiation based on colour or eating habits. Every one was enjoying life without disturbing others unnecessarily. One day this peace was disturbed. Some human being encroached from outside. They looked like humans of the forest but their way of life had been entirely different. They were of destructive nature. They did not mind cutting trees, killing people or animal just for fun. All the original habitants of forest were in deep trouble. No one knew why, where or when death would embrace them. Many died just because of fear. Some wise men thought of consulting all habitants with a view to find a solution. There were lot of discussions but no solution could be found out. Finally every one agreed that the solution could be found by the God only. So all decided to approach the God. A committee was established to explain there point and obtain a solution from the God. Committee members one fine morning approach the God with their problem. The God gave patient hearing and assured them for help. He sent a warrior with them. Warrior had been strong and he killed many who encroached in the forest. There had been peace and all were happy and thanking the God. The warrior thought of returning. However the intruders again started their fun of killing. Some of them would keep the God's warrior busy in one place and kill people and animal in other place. Finally the warrior gave up and asked for permission to return. So the Committee members decided to approach the God again. The God refused to provide any help. However the Goddess offered to help and sent her warrior with the members. The warrior did an excellent job. However, he got the taste of blood and when no intruder was found stated killing the habitants. The warrior was happy to stay in the forest. Again every one was concerned and approached the Goddess. The Goddess called back the warrior but refused to provide any further help. So the members again approached the God. He was very angry but had soft heart for the habitants. He advised them to approach Guru (Teacher). He invited the Guru and help them get advise.from the Guru. Guru gave complete listening to the committee members un understood the problem. Guru made it clear that he does not have a warrior to help them. He further clarified that he will only educate them and explain what tricks would be useful. The execution part must be administered by the members and the people. He told them to establish educational institutes. These institutes must imbibe in the minds of ever one that all are equal. There is no differentiation like rich-poor, male-female, caste or creed etc. There shall be rules and laws for all. Every one shall follow these. These rules or laws may be modified with changes in situation with consent of majority. We all have taken birth for feeling happy and making others happy. Differentiation of any type means inviting trouble, reducing our strength and ultimately destruction of all. He asked them whether they are prepared to accept this. All members had doubts about execution. They had doubt about intruders asking admission the schools. In case they are admitted then it would be easier for them to destroy people. Members put forward their doubts. Guru requested the God to provide a warrior for protection of schools. The God agreed. Finally members agreed. Guru meticulously taught and the members were enlightened. The committee returned with warrior and the education to firmly fight the menace. Committee invited a meeting of all in the forest and gave information of the proceedings of their meeting with the God and the Guru. Many did not understand and had resistance to the method. However finally when they found no other solution reluctantly accepted to give a try. Schools were opened. people were taught. Slowly people started accepting the new concept. Ties among people strengthened. All together fought with intruders. some of the intruders were admitted in the school and they became good members of the forest. Intruders did not stop but their strength was reducing day by day. Days passed, months passed years passed, there had been steady progress and one day people saw the Sun rising but did not see their enemies either in the forest or around the forest. Every one in the forest were very happy and pledged to keep their forest peaceful. From this day they decided to celebrate their victory by lighting lamps every year. This is how the festival of lamps became part of life of every one in the forest. |
