The Martindale family began with Rosetta Parkinson. Rosetta was white. This is as far back as we know. She was born in Barbados on May 24, 1837 and died in Barbados March 11, 1920. She was 83 years old. She had a daughter, could have had more than one we don't know. Her name was Mary Magdalen Weeks. Mary Magdalen Weeks was born in Barbados 1851 (month and date not available). She died on January 22, 1922 in Barbados. She was 71 years old.
Oral history and documents prove that Mary Magdalen Weeks arrived in Guyana with 2 or 3 children. Names - Charles Cox and Rosamund Cox, and a male companion named Durrien. In Guyana she had more children named Eldica, Rosamund, Mirrium, Fisuretta Durrien or Durrieu. Rosamund married a "Duke" and had a son named Edgar who resides in Guyana. Miriium had a daughter name Ann Potter. Mirrium died soon after Ann Potter was born. Ann resides in Virginia USA. (info may not be exactly correct).
Eldica Durrien was born in Guyana on May 29, 1878., and died in Guyana Feb 15, 1929 at age 42. She met George Stanford Martindale who was born in Guyana of Barbadian parents. He was black. George Stanford Martindale Jr. was born in 1872. His parents names were Rosetta Butler and George Martindale Sr. Eldica was white. George Stanford Martindale and Eldica Durrien had 11 children. George Stanford Martindale left Guyana for St. Lucia around 1912 to look for work and never returned. He died in St. Lucia in 1955. Their 11 children were raised in Georgetown Guyana.
George Stanford Martindale also fathered a son named Sigismund Godfrey Martindale born to Ms. Gittens of Guyana. Sigismund was born on October 23, 1896 in Guyana. His mother died when he was very young and he was raised in an orphanage. Sigismund wife and children reside in Toronto, Canada. It was believed that George Stanford had another family in St. Lucia. Many branches of Martindales also reside in St. Lucia, Barbados, St. Vincent, Canada, England, and Africa.
Martindale History Facts:
It is almost certain that all Martindale are related. They are descendents of one person or maybe a couple of relatives. (original name may have been de Martin) who came to England in 1066 with William the conquerer. The person or persons went to Westmoreland in the far north of England. They intermarried with Barons. As for America there are 3 lines of Martindales who came over around 1690. The New England and Canada line. The Maryland line. The maryland line split, one went to Pennsylvania and one to Virginia. The West Indian Line - the oldest/ black line are desceendants of a sea captain who settled in the West Indies.
