Internet Explorer
Tips and Tricks

To increase the amount of items that you can download from a specific server at once (including how many pictures on a page that can be downloaded to be displayed at a time) from two to any number:

Go to Start>Run and type 'Regedit'

Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings

Add a Dword value of 'MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server'
Add a Dword value of 'MaxConnectionsPerServer'

For a cable modem connection, a value of 16 for the first item and 8 for the next works well for me. If you have a faster connection, more may be better.

To make the cursor go to the address bar, either use Alt + D or Ctrl + Tab.

Browsing in a new window:

To simply load whatever page you want in a seperate, new window, hold down shift and click the hyperlink. Control+N also loads a new IE window.

Automatically clear Internet Explorer Cache on close: REGISTRY TIP>ADVANCED USERS ONLY

Firstly, you MUST be sure that you have closed Internet Explorer. Go to the Run menu and type "Regedit".

Go to the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Cache

Double-click on the "Persistent" value in the right hand side of the window and: - if DWORD [IE 3/4]: type 0 or 1 in the Decimal box, or - if Binary [IE 5]: delete the first two digits, and then type 0 or 01.

Click OK.

Where: 0 = clears the cache every time IE closes. 1 = saves IE's cache." ADD-ON: These entries look like this on the Regedit screen: 1. MS IE 3.0x and 4.0x [DWORD]: "Persistent"=0x00000000 (0) or: "Persistent"=0x00000001 (1) 2. MS IE 5.0x [Binary]: "Persistent"=00 00 00 00 or: "Persistent"=01 00 00 00 And this is how they appear in a .REG file: 1. MS IE 3.0x and 4.0x [DWORD]: "Persistent"=dword:00000000 or: "Persistent"=dword:00000001 2. MS IE 5.0x [Binary]: "Persistent"=hex:00,00,00,00 or: "Persistent"=hex:01,00,00,00

Turn off Internet Explorer Auto Complete:

This can get really annoying sometime so turn it off! Right click on the Internet Explorer icon on your desktop. Go to PROPERTIES. Then click on the Content tab. Click on the Auto Complete button. In here you can then check/uncheck the options you require.

Change Internet Explorer Title Bar name: REGISTRY TIP>ADVANCED USERS ONLY

This tip can be useful for those of you whose ISP loves to brand everything with their name!

1. Click Start and go to RUN. Type regedit
2. Go to this registry key:

Use Regedit to go to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express

If there isn't a string called "WindowTitle" you will have to create one. To do this right,
"Use Regedit to go to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express Modify or create a new String called "WindowTitle" and give it anything you want as its value, i.e. "My Email Program" (no quotes please). This will change your MS Outlook Express title bar text."
