Supernatural

Beginnings

Driving carefully through a small town I stared out my window patiently waiting for the rain to stop and noticed a car up ahead that was smoking. I paused for a moment seeing two people were stranded one looked steamed and was yelling at the black car. The other looked exasperated with him yelling and leaned against the hood while the other continued to rant and rave at his car. They seemed harmless enough but I wasn’t sure if I wanted to stop for them or not. Something told me it was safe an instinct gut feeling I couldn’t decide. I pulled over next to them and rolled down my window. Both of them were soaked one had dark brown hair the other had lighter brown hair and was still swearing at his car. The one with the darker hair smiled and walked over to my window leaning down.

“Need a ride?” I asked smiling as he nodded staring crossly at the other one for a minute. “I’m Nakita.” I said politely deciding the one I was talking to was the sane one since the other was still growling at his car not even noticing me.

“I’m Sam and that’s my brother Dean…the hot head.” Said the dark haired one as he brushed back his hair and stared thoughtfully at Dean.

“I take it his car doesn’t usually do that often?” I asked thoughtfully with a small smile on my face as Dean paused in his ranting realizing someone was talking with Sam and had offered to help.

“No not usually…that’s what I get for traveling so much.” Said Dean approaching the window with a smile his cloths sticking to him as he leaned down to stare in.

“Dean this is Nakita. She’s going to give us a ride into town.” Said Sam as Dean glanced at him a minute and shrugged. “Your car isn’t going anywhere.” He mumbled sarcastically as Sam sat in the back out of habit and let Dean sit in the passenger side. I stared at Dean for a minute and smiled in the review mirror at Sam who rolled his eyes at his mumbling brother.

“What do you do?” I asked as Dean and Sam both looked at each other for the longest moment before Sam spoke up.

“We travel around and help people; we’re currently trying to find our dad which is why we’re out this way.” Said Sam as Dean nodded glad Sam was quick with an answer.

“That’s very cool. I hope you find your dad alright.” I said with a small smile realizing the next question that would come up would be what I do for a living. “I work freelance sort of. I go around and try and help people learn about Wicca, Tarot and such hoping to clear up the comments people make about them being demon worshippers and so on.” I said as Sam and Dean both looked at me in surprise then both looked down a little guiltily. “I also tend to have some psychic abilities at times and read people very well. I understand that you are afraid to tell a complete stranger about your problems and know your protecting me from the truth. You guys were lucky I stopped it was my intuition that made me.” I said with a small smile noting the surprise on their faces as they glanced from one another and then to me.

“Would you believe us if we told you what we really do?” asked Dean with some sarcasm in his voice as I stared at him briefly for a minute and then rolled my eyes returning my attention to the road.

“You know we could try and explain it to her Dean she does have something similar to deal with.” Said Sam annoyed with him for the moment. “She’s more open to the idea then most we’ve met.” He mumbled even more annoyed with Dean.

“Well excuse me Sam I learned a long time ago padded cells weren’t meant for me.” Said Dean sarcastically to Sam and then he paused glancing at me and sighing. “Don’t laugh or dump us on the side of the road please.” He said before going into a long quiet. “When I was young and Sam was just a baby my mother was killed by some sort of supernatural entity. My father made it his mission to search out anything supernatural that prayed on people and stop it no matter what. I got Sam to help me find dad when he disappeared on a search and the same entity that killed our mother killed Sam’s girlfriend Jessica as a point to let us know it was still out there. We’ve been doing on supernatural pain after another trying to find our dad and came out to this small town to stop another odd problem so to speak hoping he might be here or has been here.” Said Dean staring at me thoughtfully waiting for me to slam down on the breaks or something else to happen.

“What have you dealt with since you found the entity that killed your mother again?” I asked wanting to know more about what they deal with. “I’ve encountered some things and have dealt with research of the occult and paranormal since I can remember nothing you say would surprise me.” I said as both Sam and Dean glanced at me trying not to look as surprised as they felt.

“Windigo’s, violent spirit boy, violent cursed Indian grounds where bugs killed people, a asylum full of ticked off spirits, and the entity that killed both mom and Jess.” Said Sam still feeling like he had missed some of them.

“I think I might be able to help you guys out if you would like another hand.” I said with a small smile as Dean and Sam glanced at each other for a minute. “I know you don’t like dragging people into this, but my magic and trinkets of the trade may prove to be useful to you and besides…I currently have the car.” I said with a small laugh as Dean and Sam shrugged.

“Sounds like a plan just be careful in this mess.” Said Dean still not convinced about my capabilities.

We drove in silence for the longest time as I stared cautiously at the road something creeping into my thoughts hearing the steady breathing of a sleeping Sam behind us. The rain began to get worse making visibility zilch. I pulled off to the side waiting for the rain to let up hoping that it would soon.

“Sam doesn’t get much sleep anymore.” Mumbled Dean softly as I realized he was uncomfortable in the silence of the car with the rain pattering the roof non stop.

“He’s been through a lot over his years. I bet you don’t sleep as well as you would like either.” I said softly as Dean stared at me for the longest time seeing I was listening to him more than he thought.

“How can you be so attuned to those around you without getting hurt?” asked Dean as I smiled half heartedly and shrugged. “You get hurt all the time and have learned to deal with it even though you really don’t deal with it.” He said understanding my sad smile more then I expected him too.

“Not the sympathetic type…or at least I wouldn’t have expected you to be. You do come off as rather harsh.” I said softly as Dean smiled glancing out seeing the rain was beating even worse.

“So I noticed. Damn rain why isn’t it letting up some?” asked Dean absently as Sam stirred in his sleep with a small sad whimper before calming down again. “What the heck…

“…Is that?” I asked Finishing Deans sentence for him as we both squinted out the window at a misty figure coming at us through the thick torrents of rain.

“Sam wake up.” Hissed Dean shaking Sam who jumped in his seat before focusing in on the figure heading straight for us.

“Um…I think we better go.” Said Sam as I glanced through the window the rain finally letting up a little.

“No kidding.” Said Dean sarcastically as I started the car and carefully moved into traffic driving slowly past the figure toward the town a few miles ahead. Suddenly the figure jumped at the car and all of us jumped in start as we saw a male face appear against the window so clear we could see the woods behind it. “Drive!” he hollered as I pressed my foot down on the accelerator and drove down the road leaving the figure far behind us in the now picking up rain. “Are you alright?” He asked his concern clearly showing in his face.

“Yeah…I think so.” I said with a small smile as I glanced up in time to see the figure in the road again or someone else. I panicked and slammed on the breaks skidding sideways to a final halt as Dean and Sam both glanced through the windshield along with me. “It’s a girl.” I said realizing my knuckles were white against the wheel.

“A ghost?” murmured Sam as I glanced at Dean who stared back at me. Then he started to open the door something nagging at me I grabbed his arm and shook my head.

“Don’t….something is not right here.” I said softly relaxing my grip on the steering wheel and gripping Deans arm tightly hoping to keep him from leaving the car.

“It’s a girl.” Said Dean with a light smile glancing at my death grip on his arm and looking into my eyes reassuringly. “I’ll be fine Nakita don’t worry.” He said surprising both Sam and I as he kissed my cheek lightly before opening the door and stepping into the rain watching the girl for a long moment. I realized then what was off and grabbed Dean yanking him back into the car as Sam reached across his seat and slammed the door behind him locking it quickly. The girl then came running at the door screaming and clawing the window violently as I glanced into her eyes seeing a hint of laughter in them as she shifted into the guy that had attacked us on the road earlier making herself slightly transparent against the rain and then shifting again into a dog running into the woods.

“Not again.” Swore Dean as Sam nodded staring after the dog that had vanished into the woods.

“That was a shape shifter.” I said as Sam and Dean both nodded carefully glancing around the car hoping the shape shifter had given it a rest for the time being.

“We know.” Said Sam as Dean leaned remained lying in my lap looking up at me closing his eyes briefly trying to calm his breathing. “Dean you alright?” he asked softly as Dean nodded smiling faintly as I glanced down in his eyes concerned for his well being.

“Yeah thanks to Nakita.” Said Dean softly as I smiled glad to see his humor returning. “Why can’t we ever find something normal?” he said with a laugh as he sat up staring into the woods and then at the road from the half turned car. “We better get out of here before that thing decides to come at us again.” He said as Sam pulled out a notebook, journal of sorts and started to page through it.

“Dad has something written in her about them, but not of one changing from people to animal.” He said as I glanced at them both and thought about it long and hard before speaking.

“I have a large collection of things I’ve learned and read in various libraries and places I have visited. I should have something in my one blue notebook with Oddities of the Changeling and shifting races.” I said as Sam reached into one of my bags on the floor at his feet and found the book I was talking about quickly.

“A rare breed of shape shifter called the animus humanus changeemus. They can shift from animal to humanoid upon thinking it and learn to change form by touching others skin, fur, or other tangible part of the body that holds DNA. They are mischief makers and love to cause trouble for others. The thing they enjoy most is choosing victims and driving them crazy or killing unsuspecting strangers for personal enjoyment. They come out of hiding several times a year, but according to Nakita’s notes this is their breeding season.” Said Sam pausing in his reading glancing at me.

“Yes and the worst part of this is they become increasingly violent during the breeding season to impress their mates usually taking it upon themselves to pick more than one victim.” I said as Dean and Sam gave each other a strange look. “That means all three of us will be in trouble and will have to be careful of who we trust.”

“We’ll need something to identify us in case he assumes our forms.” Said Dean as Sam nodded I had the feeling that the last time they encountered a changeling that all heck had broken loose. “What do we use that won’t be obvious?” he mumbled as I stopped the car off to the side of an exit and reached in my purse pulling out three silver bands with a pink colored skull shape and smiled.

“These are Rose quartz they will protect us from any spells and such hopefully also help identify the changeling. These two are in skull shapes so you don’t feel quite so ridiculous wearing the pink quartz. I’ll have this star shaped one.” I said smiling as both of them took one placing them on their middle finger as I did with mine.

As I continued to drive down the exit we noticed there wasn’t much activity in the small town. It was all quiet except for a small restaurant that looked as though it was getting ready to close then I spotted exactly what I didn’t want to see. The changeling in its true form which made me even more nervous then I thought. The changeling was male six foot 2 with gold glowing eyes. He had neck length layered raven as midnight hair and pale almost silver colored skin. Dean too spotted the changeling and then noticed the dark smile filled with razor sharp fang like teeth.

“That’s nothing like the changeling we encountered. He looks almost human…almost.” Said Sam also seeing the changeling as I stopped the car outside the restaurant and noticed a young girl inside working the counter. She was five foot seven with long red hair and dark green eyes and appeared to be the only remaining one in the place closing down by herself.

“The changeling is going after the waitress.” I said as Dean and Sam noticed the girl for the first time and saw the changeling had vanished from view. “There’s got to be a back way into that place.” I mumbled stepping from the car into the pouring rain seeing Dean and Sam run around back as I ran in the front entrance surprised it wasn’t locked yet. I was soaked and annoyed but more concerned with the girl whose name tag read Daphne.

“Hey…we’ll be closing soon. The grill is off and the coffee about warm but I can get you a cup.” Said Daphne with a small smile seeing me standing there dripping as I shook out my hair thoughtfully and dragged my foot across the tile floor hoping the noise might distract the figure I saw slouched behind grill counter in the back room. “I’ll get the coffee.” She said starting to go into the back room.

“Nah thanks, just need to dry off a bit. Want to sit with me a minute. I need a few good tips on where to stay tonight. The weather is really off and hard to drive through tonight.” I said as she smiled and nodded walking over to a table to sit with me. I saw the glow of eyes that highlighted an annoyed frown tinted with a small grin.

“Something is wrong isn’t there?” Daphne asked me as I smiled faintly and nodded. “Can you tell me or am I going to think you’re a lunatic?” she asked almost as though she could read my mind.

“You probably wouldn’t believe me if I told you. Trust me your safe for the time being. I think we need to leave though.” I said low to her as she nodded faintly and stood to go to the kitchen. I grabbed her arm and shook my head no.

“Going so soon?” said a soft delicate accented voice as I glanced at the kitchen doorway and saw the damp changeling eyeing me thoughtfully. “I mean I just got here.” He said with a small smile hiding his teeth carefully.

“Dean, Sam Don’t.” I said as they came in behind the changeling and paused. “He has something in his hand.” I said as the changeling smiled flexing his hand revealing a long fine small sword.

“It’s called a short sword.” Said the changeling as Sam grabbed a pot and stopped a swing from the changeling’s sword while Dean kicked out at the changeling’s wrist missing him as he whirled flipping on the counter watching tensely at them and then me. “You witch might want to watch it. And these two might better leave town with you if you all know what’s good for you.” He said softly smiling at Daphne who was behind me watching is fascination and fear.

“I don’t take kindly to threats especially from you.” I said staring the changeling down startled when he flipped about two inches from my face glaring at me his eyes a gold flame of irritation.

“Don’t.” hissed Dean in warning as I noticed the changelings eyes flare with a sick sort of glee.

“Why?” asked the changeling as I saw the hand with the short sword shift lightly.

“Because I’m not in the mood.” I said grabbing his wrist and slamming him into a table shoving Daphne into Sam who caught her and headed out the back. To my surprise Dean grabbed me around the waist and hauled me out with him quickly as the changeling started to recover. “I was just getting started.” I said as Dean sat me in the car and climb in the drivers’ side starting the engine and heading down to a hotel Daphne was telling us about.

“He was going to kill you. I’m not about to let that happen.” Said Dean hiding his eyes from both Sam and myself as Daphne sat in back with Sam trying not to panic her eyes wild with fear.

“Dean looked at me.” Said Sam as Dean shook his head watching the road carefully. “You’ve never acted like that unless it had something to do with me or dad or someone we were protecting at the time.” He said realizing that Dean was shutting him out for a reason and knew what it was. “Never mind.” He said softly understanding that Dean was caring more for Nakita then he expected since only knowing her for a few hours.

“That thing what was it?” asked Daphne finally finding her voice.

“A changeling and very dangerous.” I said seeing the girl had lost consciousness as soon as I spoke.

“Not very good under pressure is she?” asked Dean as Sam nodded seeing she was stressed shocked and overwhelmed.

We need to get her to safety.” I said pointing to the small town hospital and dropping her into the care of an ambulance driver heading toward the hotel again. As soon as we got there all three of us headed into one room with two bedrooms and went our separate ways.

I lay there for nearly two hours tossing and turning wondering what was bothering me about Dean and then it dawned on me. He had hauled me out of there because he had fallen for me and was protecting me from danger. He wanted to get to know me better and to get closer to me. I hadn’t intimidated or chased him off I had fascinated him enough that he was curious.

“Nice place.” Come a soft accented voice as I sat up with a start and stared intently at the darkest corner of my room and saw the changeling step from the shadows in his true form. “Don’t do it.” He said softly his eyes glowing brightly in warning as he aimed a small throwing knife at me. I cut off my holler and glared at him wanting to run do anything to get attention knowing the minute I moved I was dead or worse.

Nakita you alright in there?” asked Dean softly from the door as I glanced at the changeling then at the door.

“I’m fine Deanie hon…just had a rough dream.” I said sounding tired.

“Right.” Said Dean turning to walk away staring at Sam who had also heard me through the door. “Deanie hon?” he murmured as Sam grabbed one of their rock salt guns and stepped to the door.

“Nice…I thought you two had something going on. Dean really likes you.” Said the changeling softly as he eyed me from across the room. I ducked down into the bed farther as I heard a crack and saw Sam standing there with the gun pointed directly at the changeling. “Shoot.” He said realizing he was assuming too much too soon.

“Would love too.” Said Dean as he fired a salt gun at the surprised changeling sending it through an open window and two floors below our rooms.

As soon as they ran to the window the changeling had disappeared into the rainy night leaving only a simple smudge where he had landed on the ground. Then Sam nodded to Dean and left the room shutting the door to go investigate to see if he could find any clues. Leaving Dean staring at the open window breathing hard for a moment before her turned in my direction staring at me for a long moment his eyes concerned more so then I had expected from him.

“You alright Nakita?” asked Dean as he sat the gun against the floor by the night stand and sat on the edge of my bed his eyes intense in the dark room lighted half heartedly by the full moon that was hidden faintly by storm clouds.

“Yes. I think so. I can’t believe he found us so easily.” I said reaching in my bag and pulling out my book turning on the light for a minute and flipping through the different species of human changelings. I feel like such a fool that I didn’t read into this further.” I said rolling my eyes as Dean took the book from me and stared at it curiously.

“This particular changeling species will also take a witch as a mate as long as they are powerful enough to create a changeling child.” Said Dean reading allowed and flinching after the last word. “I didn’t realize you were that strong. You need a guard.” He said staring at the book handing it back to me. “I’ll have Sam stay in here and then I’ll know if anything….

“You stay Dean.” I said cutting him off in mid sentence. “Please.” I whispered sensing him staring at me thoughtfully as I closed the book and shut off the light glaring down at my hands my eyes burning with tears. I wasn’t afraid of the changeling I was just worried at what he would do if I lost my protection. “I have to be willing for the changeling to be able to accept me and if I’m not mistaken there are ways of bending ones will.” I said softly seeing my hands were shaking.

“Right. I’ll stay then and have Sam get me something other then rock salt to fire at the bastard.” Said Dean softly as I glanced up and nodded seeing him lower his eyes quickly trying not to show how much he was caring when he knew getting involved with people was a bad thing. “I should move that couch over here close by in case.” He said turning to sit up but I reached out and grabbed his arm surprising him.

“Nope.” I said as he looked at me curiously. “Get over here it’s the only way I’m going to feel safe.” I said as Dean glanced at me surprised faintly but nodded.

“I didn’t find him.” Said Sam walking in with a gun loaded with bullets and handing it to Dean who explained all that we had discussed leaving out the where he was going to sleep part so as not to hear anything smart from Sam. He didn’t need it since he was having enough problems trying to shut off old emotions he hadn’t had in a very long time for various reasons. “I’ll be across the hall if you guys need help.” He said as Dean nodded watching Sam leave staring at me for the longest time hesitating.

“Are you sure you want me that close?” asked Dean still nervous about his mixed feeling for me. Then I nodded grasping his arm again as he stared at me for a moment and slid on the bed beside me relaxing a little bit tensing again startled as I rolled over wrapping my arm around him and laying on his chest closing my eyes feeling safe for a change. After a few minutes his hand rested lightly on my shoulders as he stared down at me seeing I was finally asleep breathing softly feeling warm and safe. “What is it with you that makes me so nervous?” he whispered barely audible as I shifted closer to him.

“Isn’t that adorable.” Mumbled the changeling as he stared through the window at me snuggled close to Dean seeing a gun at Dean’s side probably no full of rock salt anymore. He then shifted into a small bat and hung outside the window for a long time getting frustrated every minute Dean stayed at my side then he flew off into the night.

I started awake and glanced up seeing Dean had dozed off but was ready for trouble with the gun handy. I watched him for the longest time watching him breathing lightly realizing he was afraid of getting close to someone I smiled faintly knowing I had the same problem and then realized that’s what made us both unique. I slid up slightly against him just below his shoulder and smiled as he stirred staring down at me a small smile on his face then a note of concern.

“I’m fine.” I said softly as he nodded glancing around the room feeling as though something was off and then remembering where he was. “You’re with me silly Sam’s is in the other room.” I said as he smiled shrugging glancing down in my eyes brushing my hair lightly with his hand.

“I remember.” Said Dean feeling the urge to lean down and kiss me but ignoring it feeling he wasn’t ready to let his guard down that far yet. “Are you alright?” he murmured softly realizing he was within nose touching distance of my face.

“I’m fine…just sleepy still. The airs warm and damp.” I murmured feeling his warm breath on my face as I stared at him thoughtfully hearing something creak outside the room. Then I broke away sliding from Dean as he grabbed the gun and stood ready.

“Dean?” came Sam’s soft voice as Dean lay on the couch watching me lay where he had just moved from my eyes intently staring at him. “Can I come in?” he asked as I nodded feeling unusually flushed realizing Dean was afraid of his brothers comments and hiding my giggle as he flushed slightly thoughtfully messing up the couch slightly.

“Sure.” I called barely awake and stifling my giggles. “What’s up Sam?” I asked as he stared at me then Dean getting the feeling he was missing something but ignoring it.

“There are other reports of the changeling being in this area.” Said Sam as I sat up startled and watched as Dean stood walking over to Sam getting some old printed paper articles walking over and sitting beside me handing them to me as we both looked them over carefully. I re-read some of them and glanced over some old police reports realizing the changeling had been in this area for at the most sixty some years and had never found a mate as far as I could assume with all the dead women that turned up in each paper and report we read through. Dean wasn’t away that Sam was staring at him curiously as I realized he had just sat down without thinking knowing he was already welcome to do so. I glanced at Dean noting a slight flush as the knowledge dawned on him about him sitting without asking. He ignored it though and continued to read. “I found other articles and reports but couldn’t print them all it would have taken me all night long. As far as I can tell he’s been doing this longer then these sixty years of reports, I figure he’s been doing it for at least eighty to a hundred some years and has unsuccessfully found anyone suitable for his mate.” He said as I tossed Sam my book and saw his face go slightly pale. “Ok…until now.” He murmured tossing the book beside my legs and sitting on the couch watching Dean carefully realizing he was getting closer to me then even he was willing to reveal to Sam at the moment. “Any suggestions?” he asked as I looked up my eyes burning partially as the meaning of the changeling stuck with me even more soundly.

“Not at the moment except for keeping Dean in here and you across the hall. I would rather not be this guy’s chosen one if I can have a say in the matter.” I said seeing Deans hands tighten on the papers his eyes glaring intently at them as though burning a whole through them.

“Good Idea. If you need anything I’ll be within range for help, just yell.” Said Sam as I nodded watching as he left the room noting the deep scowl on Dean’s face and smiling faintly before exiting.

“Dean.” I whispered softly noting he was so intent on the papers trying not to growl about the changeling that he didn’t even register my voice. “Dean.” I said a bit louder as he jumped a bit turning to face me his eyes intent on my face as a small smile replaced the dark frown. “You’re smiling.” I said with a small giggle as he shrugged staring at me his expression curious as the smile faded into a whisper on his face. “What?” I asked as he pointed faintly to the corner of my mouth and stared thoughtfully. “Is there something on my face?” I asked as Dean nodded leaning forward and bracing his hand against my cheek moving his thumb lightly brushing at something on my face.

“One of those cute freckles…I guess they don’t rub off.” Said Dean with a small smile as I rolled my eyes and giggled. Then to my surprise he leaned forward and pressed his lips lightly against mine as I closed my eyes in surprise. Then he pulled back and returned his attention to the papers across the bed without a word.

I watched Dean for a couple of hours going over and over the reports and then saw him plug in the laptop and continue the process. It was real late when I shook awake seeing Dean was just shutting down the computer I stared at the clock my vision slightly blurred seeing it was three in the morning. I then grasped Dean’s arm and pulled at him watching as he smiled faintly gathering the things together and laying them on the couch then he slid up to the headboard smiling as I lay on his chest my arm loosely draped around him falling back to sleep. I heard a thud then a click and popped one eye open seeing Sam was moving about the room grabbing some cloths about half awake. I shook Dean quickly seeing him wake with a start and literally roll off the bed in surprise.

“Sam.” Growled Dean thoughtfully as Sam jumped nearly three feet and glanced around the room about half awake. “There is also a girl present in the room did it occur to you to at least come in half dressed?” he asked as Sam glanced down turning several shades of red realizing he was in his boxers and nothing else. It was habit since staying with his brother. “Not to mention maybe knock?” he asked trying to hide his smile as I glanced at Sam and covered my mouth with the sheet trying not to laugh.

“Um…right.” Said Sam nearly as red as the sun setting on a hot desert day. He the grabbed his cloths and disappeared from the room quickly. As soon as he exited the room Dean and I both started laughing.

“Poor Sam I think he was about half awake.” I said as Dean glanced at me a minute and then shook his head.

“I doubt it. I bet Sam had his suspicions after I sat down last night without an invitation.” Said Dean as I glanced at him for a long minute and smiled faintly. “I probably won’t hear the end of what he saw this morning either.” He said stretching and ruffling his hair looking tired but a bit happier then normal.

“I don’t think Sam is like that…I bet you’re more like that then Sam.” I said as Dean smiled faintly shrugging then he jumped on the bed making me bounce in place as I glanced down in his face seeing mischief reflected in his eyes indicating something was up. “Yes?” I asked as Dean reached up and poked my side making me jump in surprise. I realized he found my ticklish spot which was a bad thing judging by his big smile. He then sat up and grabbed me pulling me close tickling the crap out of me until I couldn’t stop laughing then he let me lay on the bed catching my breath staring up at his big grinning face. “That was so not fair at all Dean.” I said softly breathing hard from laughing.

“Hey guys.” Said Sam walking into the room ignoring the knock he was supposed to give since he knew he wasn’t dreaming at what he had seen early that morning. “Read this.” He said ignoring the dirty look her got from Dean and closing his eyes thoughtfully trying to come up with a smart retort for the dirty look but drawing a blank.

Dean glanced through the papers Sam had given him as I glanced over his shoulder reading through them as well feeling sick as a report popped up reading that a girl at a local hospital had been found nearly beaten to death, but was still alive in critical condition in the intensive care unit. The girl was Daphne Hart and had been admitted earlier for shock from who they assume was the attacker any information about the three that brought her into the emergency room would be appreciative since they were involved in the original incident.

“Um…I think we better get out of here and head to the hospital.” Said Sam as Dean glanced at him and shook his head no.

“We have to Dean. He’s trying to draw us into the open if we don’t at least give the police an idea about what is going on he could kill her.” I said as Dean stared from me to Sam and then back.

“Right. Hi officer that girl we were the three who brought her in. The original incident happened at her place of work we saw this guy watching her and tried to protect her. He’s a changeling you see and has been killing for more then sixty years and we are here to stop him. Oh by the way he’s been killing all these women because he’s been trying to find a mate to make more of his murderous kind to finish off the town.” Said Dean sarcastically as Sam and I bother realized how bad it really sounded. “Do you realize they would blame her beating on one of us and send the others to the loony bin?” He said as I nodded and saw Sam sit on the couch and sigh.

“Psychiatric hospital.” I said as Dean stared at me with a light smile. “We could say we were passing into the town on our way to meet up with your father and stopped for some coffee and saw some strange guy try and attack Daphne. We helped her and the shock was so much we brought her to the hospital immediately and in the process didn’t call the authorities as per her request.” I said as I saw Dean start to comment and then nod as Sam agreed with a nod as well.

After agreeing to this we went to my car and opened the door climbing in and heading to the police station. When we got there we all climb out of the car and I noticed Sam and Dean both hesitate for the longest time. I realized that they probably had done a lot of things to protect themselves and to stop evil things, which meant many of them were illegal and cops made the nervous. I smiled and rolled my eyes grabbing both of their arms and walking toward the entrance freezing in my stride as I spotted the changeling in the station talking to a detective judging by the dress of the man. Dean and Sam both noticed too and each glanced at me.

“I have a bad feeling about him being here guys.” I said as they nodded in agreement. “I think we better leave.” I said softly as we all turned to the car and climb in watching the station carefully.

Soon the changeling exited the station laughing and shaking the detectives hand like they were good friends and then he turned heading to a black jeep suddenly looking across the road at us. I realized he was watching us thoughtfully debating as he glanced at the detective and us again. I knew he was up to something and had a feeling if we didn’t get out of there we would find out all too soon.

“Go.” Whispered Sam as I nodded and Dean started up the car slowly pulling out onto the street and driving out of town toward where I had originally picked them up to his car with the spare parts he had Sam pick up the night before in hopes to fix his car. “We’re going to have to leave your car for a while.” He said as Dean glanced at him thoughtfully.

“Yeah I kind of figured that. Besides it’s a rental I don’t have my own I do too much traveling as it is without worrying about my car.” I said as Dean glanced at me a moment and thought better of the comment that had come to mind. “Ok your car is worth dragging around Dean the one I actually had a long time ago wasn’t worth the effort it took to start the damn thing.” I said as he smiled faintly and ignoring Sam wrapped his arm around my shoulders and pulled me close.

“Isn’t that cute.” Said Sam as I smiled realizing both boys could be boys when needed to be to get the other one riled it was so cute.

Later on Dean drove back into town careful to take the back roads in case someone recognized who we really were and then parked on the other side of the towns’ park in some thick trees carefully hiding his car. We all climb out of the car and carefully worked our way down through the bike and walking paths taking a few made by the animals until Sam tripped over something sticking out of the grounds mumbling curses as Dean helped him to his feet and I glanced down at the object that had caught his leg. After a quick look with a flashlight catch was the operative word considering it was a partially decayed human hand sticking out of what appeared to be an extremely shallow grave. There was a charm bracelet that identified the girl as being named Alexa.

“Um…wasn’t Alexa Hammond one of the girls on the missing list of people we were looking over last night?” I asked Dean as he nodded leaning down with a stick poking at the soft earth moving it around revealing more of the hand and arm. “Dean the earth is really fresh and the girl came up missing a month and a half ago.” I said as Sam turned away glancing around the area with a pocket flashlight for more signs.

“She’s only about a month or so dead though.” Said Dean as I glanced at her for a long moment and shook my head. “What do you mean?” he mumbled moving her wrist with the stick startled that it wasn’t stiff with rigamortis yet.

“She’s recently been killed and buried. The Changeling sucked the life out of her literally.” I said glancing at Sam and pointing to my bag he was carrying for me. “I need the book again.” I said as he nodded tossing it to me. I turned on my flashlight and glanced down three pages to a page I hadn't read and glanced over it quickly gagging at the results I found. “When a changeling takes a victim finding them unsuitable for child bearing then he will suck the life literally from them leaving them partially decayed and bury them in a shallow grave.” I murmured staring at them as we all heard a shuffling in the trees freezing. “We better get out of….

“Not going anywhere as of this moment.” Said the changeling as he dropped down right in front of us glancing at us for the longest moment his eyes alight with amusement.

The three of us froze staring at him as he shifted faintly into a stance to fight, his golden eyes glowing more noticeably in the park forest since there was only the full moon light at the moment. I wasn’t afraid of him as I had stated to myself before, but I knew exactly what he wanted from me and was not about to become anything to him if I had anything to do with it. I grasped Dean’s hand lightly and also reached out grasping Sam’s hand and then I stepped back very slowly aiming a sharp kick to his gut which surprised him as he double over falling to his knees.

“Now would be best to get to the car.” Said Sam realizing they hadn’t brought the guns with them which was unusual for them.

“You don’t say?” Dean said sarcastically as we took off running through the woods back the way we came hearing cursing behind us.

I chanced a glance over my shoulder seeing the shape shifter had changed into a large black wolf and was in hot pursuit. A voice in my head was saying “Oh great now he’s going to catch up with us and then he will probably kill us. Wait! He will probably kill them.” I grumbled softly at the thought and pulled out a small bag from my pocket full of a powder of mixed herbs and leaves tossing it across the ground behind us hoping it would by us some time to get to Deans car. I heard a hard thump and yelp as I chanced another look over my shoulder seeing the shape shifter had crashed head long into the invisible barrier that the herbs had made, but they weren’t strong enough to take more then the one hit.

“Car.” Said Sam gratefully as we all halted suddenly in front of Dean’s car hearing a soft padding sound behind us as I realized the shape shifter was back to the chase and gaining rapidly judging by the loud snarling we heard in the distance behind us. “What did you do to him back there…he…doesn’t sound too happy.” He asked as I glanced behind us knowing full well the spell had probably hurt him more than I thought it had by his very loud snarling that got closer by the second.

“I threw a spell designed for his kind…a sort of….um…universal type spell and I think it hurt far worse then I had intended. I think I added one too many extra ingredients in the thing.” I stated brushing aside my blonde hair from my eyes briefly before reaching in my small bag of pouches full of spells, powders, and other things that could come in very useful at that point. “He will probably change his mind and kill me now.” I murmured faintly hearing the padding turn into a faint meshing of feet slowly their pace to a slow deliberate step. Glancing up he came into view and I suddenly felt sick.

“That hurt.” Stated the shape shifter faintly as his eyes glowed more of a dark gold in anger. He place his hand gently against his face and flinched feeling a few open wounds that had started to heal and glanced down at his crimson covered hand.

I looked at him stupidly for a moment with my mouth gaping open, no words managing to form. His forehead had been badly bruised and had a thick cut in the skin that had slowly started to heal, his mouth was cracked and caked in blood, and to my ever sensitive eyes I noticed his nose was at a very odd angle also slowly starting to shift back into place.

“I think I swallowed a couple of teeth.” Murmured the shape shifter absently as he spit out blood staring hard at Dean and Sam, and then sadly his blazing gaze met my eyes with a sick sort of smile. “No more of those little packets of gimmicks witch or I might just change my mind on your living.” He said his eyes dimming to a very pale glow as I hesitated in my sack with my hand around a much stronger version of the mix I had thrown in his path earlier, somehow knowing that if I did anything too suddenly something bad was going to happen and I wouldn’t be able to stop it. I left my hand on the pouch carefully eyeing the shape shifter and seeing Dean was getting very irritated with the shape shifters words.

“Dean…don’t.” said Sam simply as he grabbed at Deans wrist stopping him from reaching the throwing knife he had stuffed in his belt when they got to the car. The knife had always been strapped to the bumper in case of emergencies. “Nakita any suggestions you would care to share?” he asked seeing my face was a mask of hesitation and anger.

“Without her little gimmicks and magic…….(sigh)……she’s really quite worthless.” Said the shape shifter as I jerked my gaze at him my own eyes I could feel were full of heat as he chuckled faintly at my dangerous stare. “Temper witch.” He murmured as I eyed his hands carefully noting he had a couple of hidden weapons literally up his sleeves.

“She has a name.” hissed Dean as Sam made a desperate attempt to clamp his hand over Deans mouth knowing it would certainly get them in more trouble as always.

“I know very well what her name is Dean.” Hissed the shape shifter as he glanced at me curiously watching every move I made. His face was now completely healed aside from the caked blood and him spitting out blood. “She is as close as I can come to finding someone acceptable to bear a child and I really don’t want to kill her unless she forces me to.” He said making it a point to glare in Dean’s direction.

I knew I was going to give him that reason as soon as I could think of a way of distracting him. My mind was whirling with one thought after another but none of them were of use to save all three of us. Finally something struck me as I glanced in the direction of the changeling lightly touching my face feeling the stinging subsiding as I saw gold glowing eyes intensely staring in mine. I noticed Sam had all he could manage to keep his grasp on Dean who had murder in his eyes. I realized the bastard had been talking to me but lost in though I ignored the shape shifter.

“Ouch.” I murmured half heartedly closing my eyes feeling my own temper flair as memories of what I used to tell my mother if some guy ever touched me and then came the images of what I could do to him if I didn’t have to worry about Dean and Sam. “You could have snapped your fingers for my attention you stupid ass.”

“I don’t like to be ignored you little tart.” The shape shifter said staring hard at Dean with a small smile knowing that if his brother didn’t have a grip on him he would have killed him by then. How I hated that word more then anything because of what it referred to. I could feel my face warm still stinging as I glared at him my temper starting to get a little too difficult to control for my liking.

“Do. Not. Call. Me. A. Tart.” I stated like I was talking to an ignorant child who had yelled at there mother one too many times. “The reference is totally unnecessary and out of context for me…thanks.” I said annoyed with the dark smile that came across his face at that point.

“Testy aren’t we?” asked the changeling as I rolled my eyes reaching very slowly from the bag holding a pouch. He was too busy in my face making it a point to get on my really bad side to notice what I was doing.

“Always.” I said sarcastically as the changeling stared at me half yawning in my face pretending to be bored. He then glanced at Dean whom Sam was really having trouble keeping under control.

Dean’s eyes were alight with rage at the angry red mark that had started to appear on my face and he knew Sam would be loosing grip on him very soon by the grunt that came from Sam who was desperately trying to control Dean. I could see Sam was loosing the battle and we were getting in more trouble then I could get us out of at that point. The pouch I had I knew wasn’t strong enough since he had been distracting me and I also knew that it would most definitely change his decision about my life but I was too worried about what would happen to Dean if I didn’t.

“Should I kill him to stop that little attitude of yours?” asked the changeling softly as I glanced in the direction he was looking seeing Dean only stop fighting Sam for a very short moment curiously watching my hands. “I know you care for him…rather sad actually.” He murmured with a small smirk as Dean jerked from Sam and stood his ground brushing off his coat.

“You’re the sad one really….always looking for something that isn’t there.” I stated my voice ever so slightly on the edge of laughter knowing that I had gotten under his skin with my comment as his flaring eyes turned their attention to mine his hand lifted in my direction.

One of two things happen at this point which could easily be defined as bad and good, Sam grabbed Dean who was ready to charge and I raised my hand quickly with the pouch in front of his blow which sent him back hard into a tree with a sharp bang. I went flying into the car behind me and remember vaguely being lifted over someone’s shoulder hearing a car start before I blacked out. I felt several bumps and turns as the car continued to move I was aware I was being held close by someone, but not aware of my surroundings.

“Sam up ahead there’s a motel.” Dean said in a very low murmur carefully placing my head back on his shoulder after examining my injuries as best he could in the backseat of his dark car. “She’s out of it.” He mumbled half worried half angry at what I had done without thinking.

“She will be fine.” Said Sam softly turning into the run down old motel and stopping, the rain was coming down again so hard Sam could barely make out the sign that glowed blurrily in the windshield before he turned to the back watching his brother carefully. “I’ll go check us in…wait till this crap lets up before you take her in.” he paused faintly before running out into the pouring rain to the service desk of the open main entrance.

Dean very carefully placed a warm hand on the side of her face that had bruised ever so lightly where the changeling had hit her bringing her out of he assumed thoughts of hers. He swore as I moved faintly in my sleep flinching faintly and then he carefully placed his hand down around my ribs making sure that nothing was broken. He then noticed the welt that was slowly forming on my lower back as he checked underneath my back for any damages and found that my right leg was swelling slightly. “That was the dumbest move you could have done at such a close range.” Thought Dean as Sam hopped back into the car completely soaked from head to foot brushing his wet hair aside seeing his brothers’ concerned face.

“Here are the keys to the room. Number seven is the one we have…when this lets up take her in take care of what injuries she has and I’ll go get something for us to eat and some aspirin.” Sam said low to Dean in an almost whisper at the angry look in his brothers eyes as his hand trailed very gently down her leg to where the swelling was the worst and pressed lightly making sure nothing was broken and then he noticed the blood that lightly slid down her arm checking to find a deep cut on her shoulder.

“Magic can do more damage then I would have expected…especially at such close range.” Dean murmured his voice very husky something Sam hadn’t expected from him. His brothers voice was husky trying to fight the tears in his eyes that were hidden rather well considering it was a very long time since Sam had seen him cry.

“She designed that magic specifically to injure his species……I don’t think it was meant for close range contact, but I don’t think she really was thinking or caring at that point.” Whispered Sam noting the rain lighting up enough to a very fine mist where Dean could get me into safety.

Dean lifted me up over his shoulder again feeling slightly guilty at my wounds and ran to the room opening and locking the door securely behind him. Then he glanced around at the two beds in the room laying me onto one and heading into the kitchen finding a first aid kit stuffed under the sink.

“Oh man…that was not supposed to hurt this much.” I mumbled coming around seeing Dean walking into the room with a first aide kit in hand. I knew there would be some serious explaining to do and very soon judging by the fact I was awake and yet didn’t feel the need to move since I already felt the hurting part. “I wish I was still out.” I mumbled under my breath crossly as I watched him pull up and chair and stare down at me his mouth in a slight crease of irritation yet his eyes betrayed that he was happy I was alright. I flinched in surprise then as he brushed a cloth over my swollen leg as I realized with an extremely notable blush he had removed my jeans and covered me up leaving my leg out for closer inspection. It was nicely bruised but nothing serious as I glanced down at his hand that had gingerly lifted my leg slowly wrapping it in an ace bandage and then he glanced up thankful I was wearing a spaghetti strapped shirt when he removed my coat due to the fact he knew he had embarrassed me enough at that point when my face had turn so red. He quickly cleaned up the cut and bandaged it wrapping my ribs in another ace bandage and then glanced at me apparently finished with my health and finally deciding it was time to lecture me something I was not ready for. “Don’t lecture…I know I was stupid.” I mumbled lowering my gaze as I sat up flinching and leaned against the headboard cross with my own stupidity.

“Stupid wasn’t what I had in mind…somehow my lecture sounded much worse then that to me.” Said Dean only with a half smile as I realized I wasn’t getting out of the lecture that easily. “That was beyond stupid…I don’t know if I should yell or lecture nicely. Either way I can’t believe you allowed that close range and what is worse you knew what would happen.” He grumbled as I shrugged the movement making me flinch as I realized I was sore in more spots then I cared to admit.

“I didn’t expect him to swing at me again and I wasn’t about to let him do that again without some sort of a defense and the images in my mind were much worse then what I did.” I said with a somewhat evil smile as Dean stared at me rolling his eyes some of his good nature returning, but the worry had already been shown and he clearly knew it. “Besides your suicidal rampage wouldn’t have helped any.” I said with sarcasm as Dean stared at me for a long moment debating on my injuries.

“If you weren’t so sore and hurt I would tickle that sarcasm out of you.” Dean murmured glad I was alright. “Do you have a way to heal yourself?” he asked out of worry more then curiosity.

“Somewhat but not enough for these extents and what is worse it will be harder considering I was hurt by my own magic of my choosing even if it was a reaction.” I murmured remembering why I was so cross then. “As a direct result of my own magic a lot of these bruises are stuck as is.”

“That’s not good news since we didn’t take the time to see if the changeling was dead or not.” Said Sam entering in the room with food and a thankful smile to see me up and about and Dean smiling again acting like his old self. “Food?” he asked handing out some cheeseburgers and fries staring around the room at the windows locking them as quickly as possible.

“Worse part……I reeeally don’t think I killed him, but I’m very willing to bet he has seriously changed his mind about a permanent partner ship.” I stated very quietly almost a whisper biting my burger and having a bit of trouble swallowing it beneath the lump of concern in my throat.

He was watching very intently in the room listening to every word of the conversation silently cursing the one known as Sam for locking everything in sight. Nakita was very right he was incredibly angry at her at the moment, but he also admired stupidity even if it was against him. He watched me carefully seeing I had sustained quite a few injuries upon my stupidity at using the powder at such a close range. He glanced once again down at his hands flinching at his numerous wounds including the ones he had sustained the first time that were still in the healing process. He was now waiting for several of his swallowed teeth to grow back and was constantly spitting up the blood that seemed to be coming from some of his internal injuries. Sometimes in rare cases like these he could wish he was dead, but in this case he was happy to feel the pain to remind him exactly what he wanted and whom to kill to get what he wanted. He shifted his intense glare from me and glanced around the room spying the one called Dean who was the only other obstacle in his way. He couldn’t see any reason why a witch with my powers could be so intrigued with Dean, but it didn’t matter to him he had his mind set and planned a particularly mean revenge. He flinched again in his observations noting several broken places in his ribs, left arm and collar bone. His lip was bleeding freely along with more cuts but everything was starting to mend taking more time then he liked since it was magic designed to actually do great harm even kill him if she had chosen a strong enough pouch of the fowl powder.

“That’s what I’m worried about.” Groaned Sam as he glanced out the window noticing a shift in the darkness and staring more intently at the shapes hoping the movement was only in his tired overworked brain.

“Sam?” I spoke softly question in my voice as Dean paused in his insistent checking over my wounds and making sure I was eating alright. “What did you see?” I asked instantly on alert to changes in the environment around us since I couldn’t hear anything outside I knew that the only changes would be either in the window or room itself.

“Just the shadows moving.” Said Sam absently as I glanced up at the door noting a faint damp creep under the door. Without thinking I stood regretting it as soon as I did, but I ignored Dean’s sudden movement of protest as I grabbed a towel and tossed it down on the floor forcing it into the crack stopping the dampness from coming in. I then limped back to the bed and sat down a little less nicely then I would have preferred since my leg gave out on me. I ignored the pain in my body taking out some items from my bag and using them on my various injures healing some of them as best I could knowing that nothing I did would really help much especially when I glanced down at my leg that was still swollen slightly. “I hope he’s at least close to being as sore as you are.” He mumbled faintly as I nodded in agreement for the first time seeing Dean’s eyes watching as intently as Sam’s.

“Damn” hissed the changeling seeing Sam and Dean looking in his direction intently almost as though expecting him to yell boo. Something he really was in no shape to do at that point was yell boo let alone attack, he was still healing admittedly slower then he would like but healing and was concerned that she might have more goodies in her bag, and if that was the case he would have to be full strength to deal with the next one sure it would be very strong and probably close to killing him. Lucky him because it took him nearly forever to find someone of his standards he had grown quite strong with his own magic’s and wasn’t as easily killed as some changeling could be. “This girl is very close to being the death of me.” He whispered absently under his breath staring hard in the room.

“Sam seen movement…I saw it too.” Said Dean softly grabbing the gun from beside the stand near the bed where he had set it when Sam returned with the food and weapons. “I bet he’s in pretty bad shape since he hasn’t decided to make another grand entrance.” He said only a very slight hint of a laugh in his voice, his expression intense as he walked toward the window.

“Looks like I better make my grand entrance…according to that babbling moron or disappear momentarily.” Whispered the changeling knowing his eyes were glowing with amusement even though he was in horrible shape. He stood there toying with the idea of ripping him through what he would make a shattered window ripping him into pieces partially with the window as it broke in front of her, but decided better against it considering his condition and limped off into the night for the time being planning his next moves carefully.

“Nothing there.” Said Dean returning to my bedside knowing full well his brother would probably taunt him for a week considering he wasn’t about to leave my side even if Sam could see everything from across the room. “Sam go ahead and sleep I’m going to stay here.” He said sliding on the bed beside me seeing a small smile on Sam’s face only briefly as he shrugged heading to the other bed and easily falling into an exhausted sleep.

After Sam had fallen asleep I was so sore I couldn’t get comfortable and Dean knew it just by my continued staring into space and flinching every time I moved. I was surprised when he leaned over staring at me for the longest time remembering that we hadn’t had a chance to really discuss his little kiss from the other night. He lifted me up into his arm making a comfortable pillow of himself as I leaned gingerly on my side wrapping my arm around him. He then stared down into my eyes for the longest moment smiling faintly as I watched him carefully and then he leaned down kissing me very softly his lips warm on mine then he pulled back and closed his eyes yet again without another word.

“This is getting slightly annoying Dean.” I thought to myself closing my eyes briefly in thought hoping he would think I was at least somewhat comfortable, which I actually was and still couldn’t figure out why I didn’t say anything about those kisses. My mind was more concerned with my aching body which was gnawing at my concentration a great deal more then I would have liked. “Dean stop playing and say something.” I thought wanting to say it allowed but not being able to do it just then. My thoughts then turned to when I had showed the changeling my worst part of my personality, which was my temper and how when it flared really badly I became extremely stupid. I wondered silently if he had received as much damage as my mind wanted to picture. I was daydreaming evilly about how hurt the evil bastard was when I felt Dean stir slightly from his faint dosing. “I wonder what he’s thinking right now?” I thought curiously watching as his eyes remained closed only a hint of a smile on his face as I realized he knew I was watching him. “You ass…you know my mind is working overtime.” I thought with a small glare as he shifted again this time his hand lightly placed on my arm, his eyes were still closed but I knew he was thinking I could tell by the small smile on his face.

“Why the frustrated look?” asked Dean as his eyes flashed open and a small smile lit up his eyes and breaking the silence.

“Gee…I wonder why?” I stated sarcastically as he smiled lightly closing his eyes again. “Don’t you do that open those eyes and explain.” I mumbled half heartedly knowing full well he was going to say when he wanted not when I did. To my annoyance he chuckled lightly and kept his eyes close leaving me to ponder why I didn’t clobber him. Yes I knew he liked me, but I was curious why since judging by Sam’s reaction it had been a long time. “Grrr…you men are impossible to understand.” I said lowering my gaze seeing Sam was laughing silently watching us. “You…go to sleep or else.” I mumbled loud enough for him to hear. Sam paused in his laughing for a minute and then started again only we could hear him then. “It a conspiracy.” I mumbled softly.

Soon all of us had fallen asleep except for the ever annoying presence of the changeling unknown to us. Now would be the perfect time for him to attack he knew it, but he was still healing too slow and was getting frustrated feeling around his mouth glad at least his teeth had returned. His other wounds were still healing to his annoyance and frustration as he watched the three figures sleeping contentedly and growled faintly under his breath. “Curse this fascination with you witch. Otherwise you would be joining your friends.” He thought to himself pressing on his still sensitive ribs and flinching feeling some of them still broken. “I need to speed up my healing process…only one way to do that, but what will they do to stop it?” he asked himself  knowing if they heard anything he would get much worse the next time they met. “Damn.” He though knowing he would take too long to heal if he didn’t do something soon. “Well…what is that?” he thought staring in the woods as a large deer ran bye still very youthful and his thoughts wandered to his wounds again. “Animals won’t draw their attention too much as long as they don’t find them a girl most definitely will…I can’t have that.” He thought half sighing disgusted with what he was resorted to as he changed painfully into the black wolf and dashed as fast as his wounded body would allow him to after the deer hoping its life force could somewhat speed up his healing process.

I woke stirring only slightly recalling how very sore I still was as I shifted only lightly. I couldn’t shake the feeling that someone either was or had been watching me and glanced up seeing Dean was asleep his breathing very soft and hearing the same from Sam. “Now I’m becoming paranoid.” I thought to myself brushing a stray hair from my eyes as I snuggled my head closer to Dean glancing intently at the window the watching sensation never leaving my senses. “I need to go investigate.” I thought my curiosity getting the better of my disposition but I knew the minute I moved Dean would be alert and insist on me to rest while he went looking himself. “No. Dean looking on his own equals bad idea. I need to just relax and watch.” I thought knowing I didn’t like the idea of the changeling still being around to do damage. I jerked my head up suddenly flinching at the sudden movement as I heard an odd screech sound not for off from the hotel goose bumps prickling my arms as Dean shifted too hearing the sound.

“Animal?” asked Sam breaking the silence as he sat up looking around rubbing his head thoughtfully his hair wild.

“Very scared animal.” I stated glancing out the window feeling sorry for the critter whatever it was. “Sam…in reading my notebook did you read anything else on the changeling that I haven’t had a chance to remember in my pain fog?” I asked something tugging at my thoughts but not putting my finger on it.

“Uh…” mumbled Sam half awake yet comprehending what I was asking as he reached over to take a sip from his water glass glancing across at Dean and myself thoughtfully. “I almost think he heals faster when he takes life…but he would be more cautious with us around.” He said thoughtfully closing his eyes faintly trying to return to sleep as the same thought struck him and me suddenly. “He’s taking…

“The life from animals to heal faster.” I said finishing the sentence quickly with a sharp sigh as I glanced up at Dean flinching knowing I would have to move. “I don’t want to deal with him now.” I whined knowing I sounded pathetic as I rolled off of Dean flinching each time I moved as I pulled on my pants still flushing from the incident with Dean needing to take care of my leg. “Hey I wear underwear damn it.” I thought to myself as I flinched into my jacket and grabbed my bag slinging it over my shoulder and neck allowing it to hang at my side. I then slowly limped to the door seeing the look on Deans face as I rolled my eyes placing my finger at his lips to silence either the argument or lecture that he was about to start on. “Don’t bother…I’m not good at listening when I don’t want to.” I said crossing my fingers behind my back knowing it wasn’t entirely true if I liked someone enough. “Besides I can’t take another lecture at the moment with that damn changeling on my mind.” I thought as I flinched in my limping pausing at the door waiting for Sam and Dean to get around.

“If he’s hunting animals and they’re that close we may be safer here.” Sam spoke suddenly as Dean paused pulling on his jacket thoughtfully. “How close would you say that was?” he mumbled.

“Very close…too close.” I said hesitantly as both of them turned to me for a moment wondering how I would know. “I lived in the country, went camping a lot with my mom and have a pretty good idea that they are just behind the motel considering how loud and close the noise was.” I stated as both of them sighed staring from me to the door and back at the weapons Sam had brought into the room.

“We can’t hold him off for long with what we have.” Said Dean thoughtfully watching me carefully as my hands shifted through my bag going over all the things I had with me as I stared up at him sighing nodding in agreement with him. Apparently most of my powders and things were still in my larger bag and I hadn’t remembered to restock my bag that I carried with me.

“Damn…I feel so stupid now. We don’t have enough weapons and we can’t leave if he’s out there somewhere.” I thought glaring at the door as though I was trying to burn a hole into the beat up wood. “Wood…That doesn’t exactly make me feel overly safe, he could easily kick through it.” I thought to myself closing my eyes against my throbbing pain that was again cutting out my concentration, which was something I valued greatly at this point.

“We need to strengthen the door so he can’t kick his way through it.” Said Sam noting my deepening glance at the door as I nodded in agreement watching them barricade the door with the only furniture in the room, which was a kitchen table made of brittle wood, four matching equally brittle chairs, and two coffee tables all that was left were the beds.

“That isn’t going to stop him.” Stated Dean as he and Sam went to hoist one of the beds against the door. “Now we wait.”

“Wait!” my mind screamed at him in a panic. “Wait for him to come kill us you mean Dean.” I thought sourly as I reached in pulling out what little bit of the pouches and other things I had in my bag one at a time seeing what kind of damage I could do the changeling this time, hoping to avoid myself this round. I jerked my head up at the ceiling hearing a very hard groan, followed by several creaks. “He’s on the roof.” I thought grabbing a pouch and tossing it up at the ceiling allowing the powder to mist over the entire room. “Simple protections spell…not my finest moment.” I thought carefully scanning over the windows and the room smiling as Dean and Sam both shook as the room cleared leaving a fine white dust on everything.

“What was that for?” asked Dean brushing at his hair looking a little annoyed.

“Protection from the changeling who is currently walking across the roof.” I stated with a small smile on my face as Sam and Dean grabbed both guns and took aim at the ceiling carefully following the noises back and forth across the room. “First off we don’t need holes to help him into the room and second you’re putting a rut in the boards with your darn pacing.” I mumbled softly as I heard the steps suddenly leave the roof and heard a light thump at the door. “Oh great…now he plans on kicking the door down and attacking.” I thought bitterly as I winced moving my arm with the hurt shoulder into my bag and pulling out another pouch of the protection spell and tossing it hard at the door sending another cloud across the room.

“Will it help?” Sam questioned as I glanced from him to Dean and shrugged the motion sending more pain through my body.

~CRACK~

“That can’t be good.” Dean said flinching as two more cracks echoed in the room. “There goes the table and chairs.” He mumbled hoping the bed would be more of a problem then the two tables that they heard crack in the process of another kick which made the bed shake. “He’s in.”

“Obviously.” Said Sam sarcastically as I smiled noting all of us were overly sarcastic tonight. “Any more idea’s brilliant one?” he asked turning to Dean who shrugged then me.

“None.” I said barely above a whisper as the bed shook with a sharp splintering sound. “Oh shit.” I said softly closing my eyes and ducking as pieces of the bed went flying all over the room somehow missing Sam, Dean and myself. “That was lucky.” I thought grabbing the last of the changeling designed pouches from my bag and sighing. “I wish I had two more of these…that might just kill him or injure him enough where we could finish the job.”  I thought as I heard a sharp cough from Dean turning my attention to the fight that was currently going on. “I really need to stop thinking.” I growled at myself grabbing a pouch of powder that would make someone think they were on fire briefly when hit. I tossed it directly at the changeling who was slowly choking the life out of Dean and saw that Sam had been thrown into the foot of the bed hard.

“That’s hot!” yelped the changeling as he jerked violent brushing at the invisible flames as I touched Sam’s shoulder seeing him look up his eyes glazed only for a minute before he grabbed the gun a fired missing the changeling who shifted into the floor as one of the many holes in the carpet.

“He can do that?” asked Dean as I nodded grabbing some water and tossing it near where the changeling had changed, hoping it would make him change back.

“Yes and probably more…he healed himself quite well.” I mumbled in an observing tone wondering how many animals had suffered for him to heal that quickly. “Bastard…hurting animals and defenseless ones at that.” My mind raged as I grabbed a throwing knife I had hidden in my bag and shot it at the changed back startled with water changeling hearing a sharp howl and seeing him turn to me smiling faintly as he caught my grimace of pain. “uh oh…right stupid me draw his attention.” I thought feeling my arm throbbing from my latest stupid move of throwing the knife at him. “Now what?” I glanced around my thoughts being cut short as he stared at me eyeing me carefully ignoring Dean and Sam who noticed that their guns weren’t hurting him as they glanced at one another checking the ammunition. “I’m betting blanks.” I thought remembering when the changeling had broken through and taken both of them by surprise. In the process he must have made the ammunition blanks with his shifting power.

“What’s wrong gentlemen?” whispered the Changeling lightly as both of them dropped the guns looking disgusted. “I’m afraid I do have some powers to manipulate things when I hold them.” He said with a sneer as both Sam and Dean grabbed a piece of the broken bed spread throughout the room and held them like weapons. “Stupid fools…willing to die for someone that neither of them know enough to really care about, of course that seems to be a human flaw in most of them.” He thought staring hard at my flaring blue eyes and curly blonde hair seeing I held another pouch in my hand and was thinking of throwing it at him. “I would ask what you have there witch, but I already have a painfully good idea.” He murmured glaring heatedly at me.

“Yep…I have found a cure for my pain in the ass……you.” I said a thin smile creasing my face as he glared at me his eyes blazing a deep copper gold. “I could see he was clearly ready to kill me but something was stopping him. I wonder if it’s my personality?” I thought to myself my smile deepening at the thought. I held the pouch thoughtfully tossing it from hand to hand my concentration returning to those around me and the pain I was feeling at the moment.

Dean and Sam both went at him neither one of them expecting to both fly into the wall with a hard crash as the changelings hand warped into a lengthy club and swung at them before returning to his hand form. I glanced at them seeing both were very out of it and noted angrily as a bit of blood slid down Deans mouth, but they were awake and watching intently as the changeling walked very slowly toward me. “Stupid changeling…this third one could very well kill you.” I thought as he paused a few feet away from me with a dark smile as I realized throwing the pouch at the close range he was would again do me more damage then him and frowned in deep thought. “That’s right witch you can’t hit me now without harming yourself.” Thought the changeling eyeing Dean and Sam noting them coming around and seeing he had to make his move quickly. My thought started to whirl as I glanced around realizing I wasn’t going to like what was about to happen. “He can manipulate that in which he touches…that means he could manipulate what I want or think if he really wanted to.” I thought cringing faintly at the idea and flinching in pain again. “I don’t want to be a changeling mother. For that matter I don’t even like him.” I thought glaring hard as he took another step closer toward me getting ready to reach out toward me, I grabbed another blade from my bag this one being a light short sword which I placed to his chest causing his attention to turn from the others to the point at his chest. “Ah……you’re not as careless as I had suspected…sadly.” The Changeling thought eyeing me and then the blade.

“Going to kill me with that pathetic thing, which by the way I can easily manipulate into a piece of rubber?” asked the changeling as I gazed hard at him my eyes not flinching from his gaze.

“Maybe…you can’t really manipulate it anyway.” I stated rather bored with him as he smiled dangerous curious to what I meant. “I dumped the pouch on it……if you try it you will only blow both of us apart again.” I sighed seeing Dean was ready to jump into to save me a scowl of annoyance on his face at chancing my life again. “Somehow I don’t think either of us could take another one.”

“Ah…you couldn’t dear Nakita, but I on the other hand more than likely could better then you think.” Said the changeling eyeing the blade again and then staring into my hard blue eyes. “It would be sad to see you go, since you’ve been the only one that I’ve met that could be a mother to a changeling……but if you insist on killing yourself go for it.” He hissed his golden eyes dulling to a deep glazed gold waiting for my move.

“Hmm…that I could easily do but what would happen if you were left to wreak havoc on the world?” I thought glancing into Deans eyes seeing he was going to do something stupid the minute he could get both of us to look away together. “Don’t intervene Dean…this won’t end well if you do.” I silently warned him lowering my gaze at him in warning as he ignored the look of irritation in my eyes. “I could easily kill him, but would my magic on the dagger also hurt me……I separated it finely over the blade so it might just hurt him and leave me be.” I thought my eyes meeting the changelings as I spotted Dean start to move I shook my head moving the blade tighter to the changeling seeing Dean pause seeing I wasn’t going to give him a say in the matter this round.

“Oh great she’s going to play hero again and this time I don’t have a say…she’s even threatening me. Thought Dean staring at Sam who was toying with the piece of board at his side his gaze ticking from Dean to me and back again. “Dean is going to be a mess if this plays out like I suspect it’s going to…not something I really want to see.” Thought Sam as he lifted the board and held it a moment before placing it back on the floor his gaze ticking back and forth again. “This is going to get ugly.” Thought Dean.

“You’re more stupid then I thought.” Said the changeling as he glared at me brushing his hand through his dark hair thoughtfully. “I think I gave you too much credit.” He said looking down at the floor then meeting my eyes again. “Go on get it over with you stupid witch…I may be able to find someone else if I try hard enough.” He thought patiently feeling the dagger pressed tighter to him seeing Dean was about to do something stupid.

“Actually…I’m smarter then I look.” I said closing my eyes praying I was right about my theory making sure I didn’t think about it. “Wish me luck boys.” I thought ramming the dagger hard into the changelings’ heart hearing a hard howl of pain as he flew back into the wall and I landed hard on the bed freezing as a bunch of bangs sounded through the room and then silence.

Nakita!” yelled Dean and Sam together as they both ran looking down at me on the bed. Dean’s face fell as I lay there my eyes closed.

“Is it over?” I mumbled opening one eye then the other staring up at Dean and Sam seeing a sigh of relief leave both of them as I sat up flinching and grimacing in pain looking at the wall where a huge black pile of ash and a faint burnt odor remain. “Another one bites the dust.” I thought with a small smile as Dean nodded grasping my hand and helping me to my feet.

“Well that was refreshing.” Said Sam glancing around the room which was a literal disaster. “Security deposit lost…and probably more if we don’t leave.” He stated half yawning tired still.

“Yeah…probably.” I stated rolling my eyes at the spot that used to be the changeling. “He could always pay for the damages.” I said jokingly as they both laughed.

We all left the room then and slid into the car, and I lay down as comfortable as I could get in the back hearing Sam and Dean’s voices drowning out slowly as I fell into a painful sleep my thoughts interrupting my sleep briefly. “Well no more changelings and I still need to ask Dean about those damn kisses.” I thought through my sleep haze as we drove along an old road to continue their search for their father. “What have I gotten into this time?” was my last thought before sleep finally set in.
