JAMIROQUAI LATE NIGHT TALES CD SPECIAL:                                                                     JK'S THOUGHTS OF THE SONGS
Here's the comments from JK on each of the songs he picked for the CD, *Special thanks to Whoa Music*
1. The Pointer Sisters - Happiness
"I love the blusey feel: Ella, Nina, Dinah Washington, as the opening track you can't improve on this.  I'm the kind of guy who's such a traditionist that tracks I heard when I was a teenager have stuck with me through my life.  This is one of them."
2. Commodores - Girl I Think The World About You
"This is so bad.  A classic tune.  Where do you hear tunes like these anymore.  It's such a beautiful, sweet lyric with beautiful chords and that break.  The way the bass and guitar react off one another is incredible.  Pure bass driven funk."
3. Rufus & Chaka Khan - Once You Get Started
"Another Beautiful song, which shows that funk doesn't always have to be heavy.  For me, it's one of the best examples of the classic simple funk groove."
4. Johnny Hammond - Fantasy
"This is just, well, the reason why I'm in the business.  Johnny Hammond the man."
5. Ramsey Lewis - Whisper Zone
"Check the reverb on this.  It proves funk doesn't have to be hard, as funk has far more depth to it than that.  This was just before the synths and what I call the era of that 80's sound."
6. Leon Ware - What's Your Name?
"Again, another sweet and pure track.  Lyrically, it's so summer, so light and it just gets me so excited to listen to tracks like these."
7. Ashford & Simpson - Stay Free
"This was before their big tune Solid as a Rock, and the two tunes couldn't be more different.  The chord construction and the melody are great examples of funk in a song: complex and brimming with depth."

8. Kleeer - Tonight's The Night
"Derek McKenzie, my drummer, turned me onto Kleeer.  I think the bass player was the main writer and the bass is what I love."
9. Dexter Wansel - I'll Never Forget
"An all time great.  A disco classic.  All I can say is, please, I don't want to go to Ibiza and hear som dodgy version of that next year.  If only I could have made a of his whole LP."
10. Sister Sledge - Pretty Baby
"You can't argue with songs like these.  This is a sweet song, but it isn't sloppy.  For me it's some of their best work but just because it's not well known to the masses doesn't mean it isn't great."
11. Jose Feliciano - California Dreaming
"A cover of the Mamas & the Papas classic, you have to remember this: certain specific chords and keys stimulate certain parts of the brain.  This is just a beautiful song for everyone to enjoy."
12. Skyy - Here's To You
"I love this.  The groove never changes, there's no real verse or chorus as he's curving over that title lyric.  He's got nice, consistant key and works it, hard."
13. Dexter Wansel - Life On Mars
"Since I was 16 years old, I used to smoke to this.  One of the greatest tracks of all time.  Me, I'm a space freak so I love the song's size.  The backing vocals: superfly loads of reverb, man, this is just there."
14. The Real Thing - Raining Through My Sunshine
"An English band from Liverpool.  This reminds me of being on tour and having the day off driving with my mate Mark.  He'll sing one line, I'll sing the other.  One for the old soul boys, definitely."
15. Lalo Schifrin - Theme From Enter The Dragon
"This is here just because Lalo Schifrin is just super-bad, and that's just the way it is.  He's a modern classicist and he and John Barry created a genre of music I love."
16. Marvin Gaye - Here, My Dear
"It's not particularly well-known tune but the whole album is awesome.  What can you say?  You can't really quantify how great he is.  He's the man and everybody knows it."
17. Patrice Rushen - Music Of The Earth
"I didn't what to go for her being for her Forget-Me-Nots or Roll-With-The-Punchs, whose break I love.  I'd love to be able to work with her."
