Mel
Gibson, Jet Li Getting In On The
Action
The two Hollywood megastars will
join forces with a new project based
on old school Hong Kong action
Some
of you might be thinking, What
the hell do those two film actors
have to do with TV? Well, dont
be so impatient, we were getting to
it. The two actors, who battled one
another in Lethal Weapon 4,
have joined forces and will create a
syndicated action series designed to
resemble many of the high octane
martial-arts films that made Li a
household name.
The
project reportedly came about when Li
approached Gibson and his Icon
Productions about the idea. Li plans
to employ as many of the available
far-eastern action directors as
possible for the series, and also
help out with fight and stunt
coordination. Neither Gibson nor Li
will not act in the series, but look
for both to have significant decision-making
roles.
Li
and Gibsons untitled project
wont be the first American
television series to tap into the
Hong Kong talent pool. CBSs Martial
Law, which brought over Asian
action star Sammo Hung, has done
surprisingly well in the ratings
department.
Alliance
Atlantis, which has two syndicated
shows set to launch this fall (Peter
Benchleys Amazon and Beastmaster:
The Legend Continues) plans to co-produce
the series. Although a domestic and
international distributor has not
been named, it shouldnt be a
problem with Li and Gibson attached.
