Giraffes are magnificent. They are the tallest animals on land. Their full height is fifteen to nineteen feet heigh. They weigh 1,100 to 2,800 lbs. Their great at getting food from tall trees. Their tonges are pink in the middle and black on the end. Giraffes have the longest tonge I've ever seen. Giraffes have a leatherly mouth for gathering food. Both male and female giraffes have horn like stractures called ossicong. Giraffes life span is 25 years 30 year in captivity. Giraffe's tails are one yard long! They have high blood pressure, just in caist you wanted to no. Pregnent giraffes ussualy give birth to one calf(calfs are babby giraffes.)after 4-15 months.
Giraffes are so interesting. There has been no record at all of giraffes swimming. They have allmost the same feet as cows. Giraffes are the only species in the giraffidae family. Male giraffes are called bules and female giraffes are called cows. Giraffes may see yellow-green, purple, green, or blue. Giraffes are most vulnerable to predators when drinking or laying down. Their spots are as individual as fingerprints. Giraffes may grunt or snort when alarmed. Giraffes are the coolest animal.
Giraffe babies are cool. After giraffes are born they take a nap. When they get up the mom introduces all the kids. When they are two weeks old black tuffs of black hair grow from the horns. When giraffes are two months old they still stay with the mom and she shows them were to look for food. At six months they still drink warm milk and grass. When they are one year old they are full grown and on there own. Giraffe babbies are outstanding.
Giraffes like to eat. They spend many hours feeding. They start early in the morning, rest during the hottest part of the day, and they may go on eating until later at night. Giraffes don't chew their food much before they swallow. They chew it when resting in a safe place. At this time, they bring up small amounts of food back up into the mouth, chew it completly and swallows. This is called chewy cud or ruminating(roo-mim-ate-ing). Giraffes are browsers, this means they eat leaves and bushes and don't eat grass. Their favorite leaves are leaves from an acacla leaves(ah-kay-sha).
The giraffe's horns aren't really horns at all. In fact they are boney bumps on the shull covered with shin and hair. As I said before giraffes horns are called ossicones(ah-suh-cones). Giraffes often have more than two horns. Some male girafes have up to five. Only the males have a use for them. Sometimes two males will have a contest to see which one is the stronger animal. They stand side by side and hit each other with their horns. They do this untill one of them walks or runs away. Most times no one gets hurt.
