Jami stumbled into the dimly lit hallway, struggling to keep herself from running. She knew Jeff would be after her in a matter of minutes, demanding to know what she had meant by "I can raise our baby with or withOUT you".
And sure enough, she felt someone filing out of the locker room after her. Her emotions raged underneath her smooth skin, making her feel drunk. The effect was showing in her movements. She stumbled along the hallway, tears clouding her vision, making it impossible for her to move fast enough to lose Jeff.
She felt his warm hand clasp down around her elbow, and when he stopped, he jerked her body to a stop with him. He whipped her around, anger burning in his eyes. And she couldn't really blame him for his fury, she had just threatened to take away the two things he loved. His baby and herself.
His hand was pinching the skin on her arm painfully as he pulled her towards him. If this had been a movie, she knew for certain that the special effects would have his eyes burning red. But for now they were an icy green color. A color she had never quite seen before.
Something inside her kicked on, and she struggled against him. His grasp on her arm only tightened in response, and a fleeting look of pain crossed her face before she hid it behind an icy exterior.
She had played this game a thousand times in the ring. But now she was no longer playing a game. This was real life, and it was spinning out of control. She knew that the only thing that Jeff would never forgive her for, was taking his baby away, on purpose.
He had forgiven her for so many trangressions in the past. Everytime she messed up, he was there to help her collect the pieces of her life. And even the times when he had hesitated, he had come around eventually.
And now, some quick remark she had made in anger was going to destroy everything they had. Every ounce of love he had for her was going to burn with hate.
Again, defense mechanisms kicked in. "If you are going to hate me for the rest of my life for losing our baby, then you might as well divorce my ass. You aren't happy being married to me are you? You can admit it, you dont' love me. But the fact is, this baby is going to be born. And I will raise him or her on my own." Jami snarled.
Jeff backed her up against the wall. Then with a fluid movement, his other hand clasped around her other upper arm. He pulled her up against the wall, and he pulled her high enough that her feet dangled uselessly above the floor.
Pain shot through her arms and she struggled to keep from crying out. Suddenly his icy green eyes softened and he realized her. She crumbled to a heap on the floor at his feet. Sobs wrenching from her body and echo'ing down the hallway.
He kneeled and his arms went around her, pulling her to his chest. "It's okay baby......shhhhh, it'll be okay. I do love you. I swear on everything I am, I love you. I love being married to you. Oh God baby, please don't cry." He coo'd.
