Red Belt in Tae Kwon Do; Black Belt in Cutting Wit Smaller than most of the students his age, Max has worked hard to keep from being put down. When he was insulted for his height by a teacher when he was in the fifth grade, he purposely went out for the upper-elementary basketball team. Though he really didn't care for the game, he not only made the team, but proved that "white kids can jump."
Tired of being bullied, Max started to teach himself the martial arts at the age of ten. At first, he would check out books on the subject from the town library. His favorite aunt, impressed by his dedication, started paying quarterly for him to take lessons in a school. He has now earned his red belt.
The young man has been honing another skill for years. He has mastered the art of the insult. He can insult a person in such a way that the person's rage builds to uncontrollable levels. Max often uses his mouth during a fight to trick his opponents into making mistakes.
Of all of Jamie's Sera friends, Max has come the closest to discovering the young ninja's secret. When he discovered Jamie's shinobi shozoko, his ninja uniform, and some of his weapons in Jamie's bedroom, Max was told that they were merely collectibles.
