Jack Middleton,

Modern Cowboy

Jack’s father’s favorite pastime was watching westerns. When he noticed that his son was developing the same pleasure, he began to feed the interest. Jack received his first cowboy hat when he was five. He was given his first pair of imitation snakeskin boots when he was six. For his seventh birthday, his parents bestowed upon him a twin set of Cowboy Christian’s dart-guns.

At this point, all of Jack’s friends, most of whom were older than him, were training in the martial arts and had already created their “club.” To prove that the use of his dart-guns was an “art,” and gain entry into Adventure, he practiced with them constantly. Before long, he was an expert marksman.

Though a junior high student at the start of Book One, Jack still fancies himself a cowboy. The next thing that he wants to learn to do is ride bulls.
