My Thoughts on being a Christian-
How Can I Accept being Transsexual and Still Say I'm Christian?

I am a Christian. And I am a transsexual.

Transsexualism is a proven medical fact. Being transsexual is not a lifestyle. Transsexualism is the most pronounced form of Gender Dysoria, in which a person experiences such a deep conflict between their physical sex and their mental gender that they have no choice but to embark upon the process of Gender Reassignment. For those that cannot get the necessary medical treatment, their only choice is to carry their dysoria to the grave. No other treatment has proven to help the transsexual. No therapy, no drugs, no amount of talking it out, or being told to, "forget about it", nothing will remove the hurting, or ease the suffering until the transsexual finally goes through GRS "Gender Reassignment Surgery."

I only know of one Christian argument against it, and that is - "If God meant for you to be a woman, (or man), He would have made you that way."

It's an old idea: that God dispises change.

Also a view prevalently known as ...

"If man had been meant to fly, man would have been born with wings.
"

I can see how this idea could become popular in many other faiths ... but I cannot imagine how it became so common among Christians.

If God has decided that he doesn't like transformations anymore - if He thinks everyone should remain as they were born, - He must be awfully embarrassed about some of the things He did in the Bible. But as the Bible clearly states, God is unchanging. He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow.

Think on this. Not a single person that went to Jesus for healing was sent away without it. Not one was left as they were. Not once did Jesus tell the sufferer, It is God's will that you be that way. Learn to live with your suffering and pain."

"But Jesus did not transform a single transsexual into a woman
!"

Nothing is written showing that Jesus healed anyone that was badly burned and scarred. Are we to believe that such person's didn't exist? Of course there were. I am simply stating that no one that came to Jesus was turned away not healed.

John 9:1
-7
Now as Jesus passed by, He saw a man blind from birth.

And his disciples asked Him, saying, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?"

Jesus answered, "Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him."

Then Jesus healed the blind man.

The disciples had asked for justification of the blind man's condition, wanting it explained as to why it was God's will? "Wrong," said Jesus. "It is God's will that every infirmity be healed, every wrong be set right" Further, that it was up to each of us in their own ability to come for that healing, if they choose to receive being healed.

What of those people born with all sorts of birth defects, ill or crippled? Should they refuse to go to doctors? Are they wrong in not accepting they were born that way? Should those born weak, not excercise to become stronger? No one complains that God's will is being violated. Anyone that actually believes that God opposes the modification of the body would really have their work cut out for them. For you would have to include everything! Tattoos, ear piercing, dying ones hair, trimming your fingernails, (and, yes, when I was growing up, I knew one family that believed to trim your nails was wrong - they could be chewed off, but not cut! And certainly someone choosing to go to a surgeon to change the size of their breasts, or alter the appearance of their nose would cause brimstone to rain from the sky!

Or perhaps something about altering ones sex organs makes them particulary off-limits? Perhaps this is the one body part that may not be changed? God commanded the Israelite men to be circumcised, purely for the purpose of signaling their identity as His people.

It seems this is essentially the same question that arises in any other healing. Some sects believe it is wrong to seek medical help for someone's medical problems, believing instead, that we should rely on God to heal His way - which is assumed to mean miraculously.

Yet most Christians reject that idea. Can God perform miracles? Yes, most certainly! And there are times when he does. Is such a healing more perfect than any treatment medical science has to offer? Yes, it is. Should we not pray for it? Definetely. And should we avoid to help the ill? "Absolutely not!" We don't just pray that problems will disappear. As Christians we commit ourselves to whatever we can do to help. Like the Samartian who washed and bound the wounds of the robbed man, we know that God's will is for us to do whatever we can to help those suffering. We fully expect that sometimes God will involve us in His works. We must expect that our actions of mercy are part of His plan.

Yet, for some reason, we have a "Let God do it," theology that applies only to transsexualism. "Let God do the healing His way." (That is, wait for Him to perform a healing in the mind of the transsexual that will remove his or her desire to change sex.)

God's way of healing is whatever works. We already know this, we already believe this.

"I was suffering, and you said you'd pray for me, but denied me the help that was available."

If we want to stand in the way of mercy, let's at least not use God's name as we do.

Maybe you, the reader, can't understand what we are feeling, or how these feelings daily tear at our very soul. Speaking as a transsexual person, we certainly need support and understanding from those we meet on the street and especially those we hold closest and most dear to us, our families and friends. There's not one of us, that each day we don't say a prayer, that we'll find peace, and the hurt and the tears will stop. That we wish we could live just one day free from the hurting and that all the world could see us as we really are. Please don't add your ridicule to the feelings of low self esteem so many of us already feel. We are not freaks. Even if you can't understand, instead, thank God each day you live your life that your body matches your soul. At least, please don't ridicule and deny us the help that is there for us.
