Update- I have just seen the Oprah show with the beautiful septuplets for their first birthday. It is such a joy to behold the wonders of life in these tiny miracles. May they continue to thrive and enjoy each and every moment with your miracles. You are truly blessed. It made me cry.
First birthday for McCaughey septuplets CARLISLE, Iowa, Nov. 14 (UPI) As the McCaughey septuplets approach their first birthday, their mother Bobbi says the family is thriving with the help of God, volunteers and a strict schedule. The infants, born Nov. 19, 1997, are the world's first surviving set of septuplets. Bobbi McCaughey spoke to reporters this week to promote the new book "Seven From Heaven: The Miracle of the McCaughey Septuplets." Despite a few setbacks baby Kenny had eye surgery, Alexis struggled with chronic lung problems, and the whole crew came down with the flu last month Bobbi says the babies are healthy and developing at a normal pace for premature infants. "Kenneth and Brandon and Kelsey are crawling," she said. "Kenneth can pull himself up to his feet and Brandon can pull up to his knees." Five are sitting by themselves, and Nathan and Alexis sit with some assistance. Bobbi McCaughey, 30, and her husband Kenny, 28, have been raising the septuplets and another daughter, Mikayla, who is almost 3, in their tiny two-bedroom house in the small town of Carlisle, Iowa. Next week, however, they plan to move into their new home. The two- story, 5,500-square-foot home was built and furnished with the help of volunteers and contributions. Despite 32 bottles of formula, made by the gallon, 11 jars of baby food and 40 diapers a day, the McCaughey family has managed to have something of a normal life. They go to church each Sunday and have gone to restaurants, camping and even on a long car trip to Michigan. Bobbi says she and her husband have been sleeping through most nights for several months now. Volunteer baby sitters make it possible for the couple to have a weekly date night on Fridays. "The schedule," Bobbi said, is the key to raising seven infants. "I would suggest that everybody, whether you have one, two or 10 children, have a schedule and keep it rigidly." "Our schedule is very set," she said, "and I will allow hardly anything to interrupt that." The day begins with breakfast and fresh diapers starting at about 7 a.m. The babies nap at 9 a.m., 1 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., with each nap followed by a meal and, of course, another diaper. The bedtime routine starts shortly before 7 p.m. as the kids are bathed, changed into pajamas and given an evening bottle. The babies are asleep by 7:30, leaving Bobbi and Kenny a few hours to themselves. An army of volunteers helped out when the babies first came home from the hospital. Bobbi says they've managed to cut down to two helpers during the day and none at night. "A lot of credit has to go to the kids," she said. "They're not gripey kids." While aware that life may become more difficult when the septuplets start walking, and later, driving, she's not too worried. She said, "A lot of people have said, 'What are you going to do when they are all 16 and they all want a car?' They'll get a job!"

Bobbi was a local seamstress and Kenneth is a billings clerk at a local auto dealership. The couple have an almost 2 yr old daughter, Mikayla. They live in a tiny town of Carlisle, Iowa, about 10 miles from Des Moines.
The babies were delivered at 31 weeks.

Procter & Gamble Co. announced Wednesday that it is giving the family a lifetime supply of Pampers for the four boys and three girls Mrs. McCaughey gave birth to Wednesday. "As parents ourselves, we know how demanding it is to raise one child. We cannot imagine what it would be like to raise seven kids," said Scott Stewart, P&G public affairs manager. "We just want diapers to be the one thing the McCaugheys don't have to think about."
Stewart said babies usually stay in diapers for more than two years, with each child going through about 4,500 diapers -- or an estimated 31,500 for the McCaughey kids.
Procter & Gamble is based in Cincinnati.
