Glasgow has the highest percentage of single homeless people:
65% compared to 40% in the rest of Scotland.
Each year, a minimum of 11,500 homeless people present via the
Hamish Allan Centre. Over 10,000 of these people are single with
family homelessness accounting for 14% of the overall
presentations.
There is a marked increase in the number of single individuals
presenting from vulnerable groups. (e.g. drugs/alcohol abuse,
mental health)
40% of all presentations are repeat applications.
There is a sizeable gap in "suitable" housing for single persons.
Glasgow City Council's 1,155 Hostel bed spaces are constantly
occupied at full capacity.
