I see those little yellow magnet ribbons on people's cars and I want to gag. The only thing that does is to put money in the pockets of people who are safe and sound in their homes and beds. I understand the concept of visual support, but none of the people overseas, who are risking their lives, will ever see any of those ribbons when they need it most. If you want to support the troops, do something that will benefit them directly! Regardless of how you feel about the war, there are human beings who need to know we care!
Donate a Care Package! - For $25, the USO will be sure that one soldier gets a care package.
Send Something Yourself! - This web site will give you the name of a sergeant. Pick from a list and send a package: baked goods, letters, books, magazines, snacks, anything you think you might miss if you were away from home.
Adopt a Platoon - Similar to the above web site. You have to register first, though, before you can send anything. There is, however, a link to the Stars and Stripes, that will allow you to send a message of 50 words or less immediately.
Dear
Abby.net - Send a message immediately to soldiers. If warm words
are all you can spare, send a message of hope and support! (You have
one thousand words or less.)
