The
arena is surrounded by a glass wall and ceiling, upon which the ball can
ricochet from.
The
teams play for 25-minute quarters with an unstoppable clock. The object of the
game is to throw a soccer-sized ball through a circle 7 feet above the middle
of the rink, centered on each far wall. Each successful throw is worth 1 point.
Game
play starts with the ball on the center circle, with both teams standing on
their respective end lines. After the whistle, both teams scramble for the
ball. The ball may be advanced in any way. Any player may attempt to dislodge
the ball from any other player by tacking or knocking the ball loose. If a
player is pinned by his shoulders to the ground, the ball changes possession,
and is given to the opposing team to advance from their end line. Play stops
after each score or after a penalty ends. Substitutions are only allowed during
stoppages in play.
There
are two penalties. Roughing is an illegal punching, throwing, kicking, or other
action that the referee deems excessive. The offending player is disallowed
from play for 3 minutes. Off sides is any player entering either end line after
the whistle has blown. The offending player is disallowed from play for 4
minutes. The players must stay in the penalty area the entire penalty time,
even if a point is scored.
