FIRST TRIP THROUGH THE SIERRAS WITH CHRIS AND LAUREN

It’s important to remember what we have in common
A sense of memory; a memory of sense
The notion of rushing through the Merced Valley
Like a torrent. In this way we pay
Reverence, in reverie, for life. To know
That every vista, every view will be different
Than it was the last time through. Take my hand: I will show you
The way the sun spins on a spindle, flowing over the hills
Like a syrup, sticking and illuminating here,
Darkening and shading there. Remember this, this always:
A memory of sense can be exhilarating,
Illuminating, like walking with elephants.
Like traveling in time.
