"A poem should not mean, but be."
--Archibald MacLeish, "Ars Poetica"
To seek another level
like water, to surge to floodstage
then to quietly babble in the hillsides
to seek out a tincture
of iodine, to peel back the clouds of reason
to let the sunshine in
paint a picture, paint a wall
paint your face blue
take a face from the ancient gallery
walk a mile in these boots, killer
know thyself as you would know thy neighbor
do unto others
blow their minds
strike a fancy, strike a pose
Strike a flint, fan the flames
strike up a conversation
strike up the band
rattle & hum, mutter & mumble
HOWL
(whisper)
scream without raising your voice
a poem should mean, but not be mean, not demean,
a poet, above all else, must be
and live to tell the tale.
