John W. E. MARTIN, wife Isabella BULLERWELL and sons John William and James Bernard left their home near Catchgate, Durham in 1893, passing through Ellis Island� October 21st before settling on Timberline Creek, and Chestnut, Gallatin Co., Montana sometime before third son Matthew C.'s birth in 1895.� Within a year they became permanent residents of nearbyLivingston,   Park Co., Montana.� John Sr. was the janitor of Livingston's North Side School for many years. The school now houses the Park Co. Historical Society (1999). Jack and Jim were apprentice blacksmiths with Frank Holem, and Matthew worked as a clerk, then machinist for Northern Pacific Railroad in Livingston. Jack moved to Gardiner before WWI and later worked as diamond drill operator, powderman, and power plant operator for the Jardine Mining Co.
