November 9, 1999 As most of you know our
Daughter-in-Law Heather (Kevin's wife)
is pregnant with twin girls. They are
due the middle of January. Well, she
is in Franklin Square Hospital now in premature labor. She is now 30 4/7 wks. Last Friday night at about 10 PM she felt a
gush of fluid and thought her membranes had ruptured, but what really
happened was she started bleeding. It
happens that she has a partial Placenta Previa and she must have started to
dilate and the placenta started ripping . Kevin was not at home at the time
and she called Kyle and Dawn and Kyle rushed down and because of the large
amt of bleeding decided to call for an ambulance. She was rushed to the
closest hospital, even though she is supposed to deliver at Sinai
Hospital. She was taken to the Labor
Suite and was being prepared for a C/Section and then the bleeding stopped
and they decided to wait. Kevin had
been called on his cell phone and was there very quickly, along with Kirk. Kevin was already in scrubs and preparing
to go to the operating room with her.
(He would probably have passed out but he was going!!) In the meantime we had been called , just
as I was preparing to go to bed and I
got ready , picked up Tess and we headed to the hospital all the time
thinking that she was having the C/Section.
We found Kirk in the waiting room and then Kevin came out and said she
was doing better. They started giving
her Magnesium Sulfate to stop the contractions, she had a couple of Ivs, a
foley catheter and soon felt pretty rotten from the medicine. It makes you nauseated and kind of gorks
you out. On Sat night they stopped the Mag, removed the
foley and started letting her eat. By Sunday morning they moved her out of
the Labor Suite and into a private room.
She was still being watched closely and monitored off and on. She continued to have some
contractions. Later on Sun evening
they moved her again to a room right by the nurse's station. Kevin wanted to know why they moved her by
the nurse's station and I told him it was because she is like a time bomb and
it made the nurses nervous. Monday her contractions
increased and she developed a terrible headache. They have given her several different meds
and so far nothing has helped. My next
door neighbor is a nurse at that same hospital and she visited her several
times on Monday and would call me at work with updates. Finally Monday afternoon they had to move
her back to the Labor Suite, restart her IV fluids, start giving her
Magnesium Sulfate again, put another foley catheter in. Today, Tuesday, they
discontinued the Mag again at about 12 noon and are trying to see if she can
do without it. She is able to eat now
but she only eats a little at a time.
She said she feels a little better this evening. She is having some contractions still but
not too many. Heather is on complete bedrest
and not enjoying that too much but she is trying so hard to carry the twins
as long as she can. Throughout all this her friend
Sue, Tess, Dawn, her Mom and all the rest of the family have been so helpful
and concerned. We have all pitched in
with Logan and now Kevin is trying to stay with him each night so that he
will feel more secure. Sue and Tess
have stayed with Heather a lot and Dawn spent a big part of Sunday at Kevin
and Heather's house cleaning up and getting baby clothes washed and baby
equipment cleaned. If the doctor's feel that
Heather is stable enough they will transfer her via ambulance to Sinai
Hospital. We are not sure when that
might be. I'm sorry I haven't written
sooner but everything has been so hectic and I had to work last Sat for 12
hrs (with only 2 hrs sleep), Mon for 12 hrs and today I worked 12 hrs. I'm beat but I am off tomorrow and will get
to be with Heather some and also I can shop for some more things that she
needs. Please be praying for her and
the twins and also have all your friends and prayer partners praying. We're hoping the C/Section can be held off for a while
but she will definitely have to have a Section . November 13, 1999 All week was a roller coaster
for Heather. She would be on and off
of the Magnesium Sulfate. They would
take her off the Mag and try oral medication to stop the contractions. They
tried Terbutaline and Procardia and neither worked for her. Finally on
Wednesday evening they started her on Indocin and it seems to be doing the
trick. At midnight on Wednesday they discontinued the Mag and she has been
doing real well. She will still have a
few contractions an hour but the Doctor seems okay with that. On Thursday she had another
Sonogram. It still shows both are
girls. One weighs 3.9 pounds and the
other weighs 3.4 pounds. She still has
the partial placenta previa and most likely will still have to have a
C/Section. Both babies are now vertex (heads down). They have decided to deliver at Franklin Square Hospital because it is only 10 minutes from their home. She has switched Doctor's and all of her records are now with the |
